ticking noise

04 gtp weather its cold or warm it sounds the same its a uniformed tick at idle and if you slightly increase idle the ticking gets faste not louder cant really hear it much under load. Tbhis gtp is 100 percent stock it idles smooth and boost is smooth no chugging. About 3 weeks ago i had a reduce engine power warning and stopped vehicle thats when it first started with the ticking. Got any ideas thanks and i will try and post a vid.
 


Would a lifter tick sound the same even when warm or cold and througout drivings without a change in how loud it is?

The oil doesnt have any sparkles in it does it???

And I also wonder why the "reduce engine power warning" come on.
 
Not since the last time i checked i just got my oil changed 2 days ago... Well i hit a bump one day around a curvey road around a lake and then the a week or so then here we are. It runs fine no idle issue holds boost well probably needs new plugs as i havent changed them since purchasing vehicle. Im stumped.

i dont know that dash at all but my last truck when the maf went bad it went into reduced power mode, basically idled so you could still steer and stop.

or the cat could be real clogged. it does sound like its being choked. does it feel gutless, noticeable power loss when driving it?

and that ticking sounds like a bearing, the way it raps with the rpm's up and down. any glitter on the dip stick?

how long has this noise been going on, like have you been driving it still, and if so has it gotten worse over time, or the same?
 
Maaaaybe flexplate? Though, isn't the flexplate supposed to be most prominent at idle then disappear with increased rpms?
 
The noise hasnt gotten any louder. It feels like i do have to give it a little extra throttle i suppose the pedal feels hard . This is my first gtp and i purchased it about 2 months ago so i havent really noticed power loss... I do have a p0300 that autozone found but cel not on. When you drive its more of a pronounced sound as if i climb up in speed you will hear it better but you dont hear it so much or at all over 3500k.
 


Remove your belt and start it up. Still making the noise?

That noise could be a few different things all of which are probably internal engine. Start with the top of the motor and work your way down to the rotating assembly. Pull the valve covers and check the rockers/pushrods. If its a bad lifter sometimes you'll see wear on tip of the pushrod where it contacts the rocker. You'll know it when you see it, the tip won't be round anymore and it'll be a burnt bluish color.

Lifter diagnosis may require removal of the LIM...easy stuff if you've been there. The cam may be damaged from a bad lifter. A bad lifter will cause loss in power and misfires.

Valves? Remove the retainers/springs and see if the guides have play. You'll need to pump up the cyclinders with compressed air for this...don't want a valve to end up in your cylinder.

Any thing else internal will require a lot of work to diagnose. I've pulled the oil pan off of these cars with engine still in the car but it's a real PIA. The front motor mount is in the way. Remove the rod and main caps and check for bearing wear or a spun rod bearing.

For your sake I hope it's just an accessory because anything else, well, you know. $$$$$
 
Ill have to take a better look at it tomorrow i hope its nothing of that matter just kills me because this noise didnt start till i hit that one bump with the sensor going off... I sure hope i can find how to's on these procedures or im screwed royally. Ill keep you posted and any other input would be invited. Just lmk
 
Another thing; check your harmaonic balancer. It usually makes more of a clunking sound but it also will cause P0300
 
Ok i replace flex plate. Still has the noise how do you check harmonic baolancer and does that do as rico suggested? Thanks hope im not effed
