throttle problem?

hello i have a 96 grand prix (3100 as you all should know) but anyway uh today the throttle started stick (or something) on my old lady. i went out and checked it myself....drove it around for a half hour. then i stopped in the road and moved my other car then when i went to pull it in the driveway i slightly hit the gas and it seemed to want to hold that position. Although the pedal comes all the way back to the starting position (idle). would this be the tps? maybe something in the throttle body? maybe the throttle cable??

Open the hood and check the cable routing and springs... move it with you finger to see if there is any resistance.

Do that and let us know what you find.

I had a car that would do that and the spring on the TB was broke.

Best way to tell where the throttle is sticking is to disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle body. Then move the throttle body with your hand (car shut off) and see if you can feel anywhere that it might be sticking. Anywhere that feels a little tight or rough. You could just have buildup in your TB that needs cleaned out. Also, move the throttle cable by hand and see if that feels tight or sticky anywhere. You may need to lube this (if possible) or get another one.

But it wasn't clear when I read your first post, but if the throttle is coming all the way back up, and the engine is still sitting there with a high rev, maybe try looking into your IAC. My wife's 3100 had an idle issue that the car was slow to return to idle, and sometimes it would drop down almost like it is going to stall. A used IAC from Ed ([email protected]) and all is well.
