I've heard both good and bad about these little things. I know whey are notorious for leaking if installed improperly, but I'm still considering buying one. I have the crossover wrapped thickly, but want to cool the TB a bit more. Are they worth the money and hassle for what they do?
 


This is just my opinion....

The TB is going to be hot either way you look at it.....keeping it cool...meh.
who knows if they really work or not. I've never really had the desire to mess with one.
 
the only reports I have seen where they were favored the only testing was by butt dyno, which can be fooled to easy for me
 
Have you read the article ZZP has on their website? Someone did a temperature test without, then with, the spacer and got thermal imaging pictures of it. From what the pics show, the TB temperature dropped almost 70*F, and the SC was also a bit cooler.
 
I've heard it makes a couple degrees of difference. For 1 or 2 degrees it seems a lot of work. I have wondered if it was worth it and have avoided doing it until I hear some good feedback.
 


Sort of on topic, but would the TB spacer reduce knock? Also would a 72mm TB give you less knock as opposed to the stock 69mm TB? Or does it not have anything to do with it? Cuz like David said onnly 1-2 degrees, that wouldn't make sense at all to purchase it if it did that, maybe 1-2 degrees of knock?
 
On the article I read, he said that it did reduce knock by 1-2 deg. The temp drop was reported to be 69*F. That's why I'd like to get some live responses to the claim.
 


get a link to that because it is the biggest bs i have ever heard of! that SSIC only drops temps by like 80ish and a tb spacer does the same....ROFLMAO

anyways back to the OP "?" a spacer is really no good unless you are spraying dry!

It sounds like it is more trouble than what you would gain by adding it. I have decided not to bother with it. Seems to be way more negative feedback from veteran GP owners than positive.
 
Unless you have problems installing things, the TB Spacer is a no brainer. If all you want to do is keep the TB cooler (re less hot) then it does an excellent job of that. Back in the day when I had one, it made testing air intakes much easier and faster. The TB was barely warm to the touch right after shutting of the engine. Before spacer, I had to pop the hood and let things cool down a while before being able to handle the TB comfortably.
That said, I don't have one right now, as know one really knows if keeping the TB cool REALLY does anything. I'm sure it saves on sensor life but for air intake temps, the air is going to get hot right after the spacer anyway.

Anyway that is my take on the TB spacer, since I actually used one at two different mod levels.
 


I'm almost thinking I should shy away from this and put my money elsewhere. Any ideas what I can add for $50-$60 that will prove to be more of a benefit to me than the spacer?
 
I ran one, a phenolic one from PFYC. I bought it because it was cheaper than the aluminum ones that were nitrous jet ready. I could really care less if it did what it claimed to do.

This phenolic one I bought was not nitrous jet ready, but a drill and a tap later it was. :th_thumbsup-wink:

It worked for me for many years, and I never ever had a leak.

I currently run an billet aluminum one, its not really there as a spacer, or a heat barrier, its there so I can bolt my LS1 throttle body to the back of my GenV.
