• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

I noob required reading packet including
The saftley modding thread, top swap threas, basic trans thread, general over view of site conduct and who to listen to and who not to listen to on here

Just a thought

I was a noob to these cars not to long ago and a lot of reading and hands on and some friendly advice ive come along way in the ways of the 3800...

i can make a thread and sticky it in the introductions section that includes links to all that stuff...do you think that would help?

I dont really know I mean i seeked out info when i joined but seems like alot dont

It may help it would separate the hopeless noobs from the noobs with potential

Ive seen a couple site that have threads that are sorta in the ball park of what im talking about

lists common repair links That would just be a link to the how to's
basic info
mods
body mods
links to parts and suppliers of after market go fast stuff
the basic good stuff to know

Out of over 20 forums im on ive only seen it on a couple of them

a thread like that takes a lot of effort to create. im not saying we can't do it, but im saying it is going to take a decent amount of time.

i think too often a noob is unsure of how reliable some threads are. They have no idea of the reputation and more often visited threads. It's reassuring to them to hear a personal response of "go read this thread"

Yea I have faith Just hope that it would be worth the effort
but im sure it could be helpfull to those getting into GP's
seems for every member who gets out of the gp game 2 more come in

hell after im done ill still be in here this is a good forum compared to most ive been on

I think noobs need to be redirected on their first post... to a FAQ section. To prevent these one post questions we see all the time.

Ill admit Im passive and will answer most any question no matter how stupid
being i was taught the only stupid questions are the one that you don't ask
But Ive seen alot of questions asked over and over and over some times by the same member
then theres the ones that are just knuckle heads that cant be helped

A prerequisite (SP) before you can post you have to have viewed those threads and answered 10 questions per thread. I felt like an ass every time I asked a question and the answer had already been posted.

i just post links for them... i have them bookmarked for easy copy paste... i suggested this awhile back and everyone kinda agreed it wouldnt work.

the dont actually read things, if they did we wouldnt get asked how to post a thread/reply

this gp is my first EVER car (sad to say considering im not a kid lol)
im sure i asked questions at first, but i knew that Reading would get me where i wanted to be and could go from there.

there is the faq etc, but they dont read it, the google search their issue, find this forum, join and post or ask how to post lol

sometimes its worth taking a deep breath and remembering we were all noobs once too,

^^x2. the only reason i didn't have the genius idea to find out if anybody here had been able to bolt a supercharger onto a gt is because i asked some facebook group lol. if somebody really wants to learn about a 3800 then they're going to go to the links we post when we get asked the questions for the millionth time and read them like the bible they are. i know i've learned about everything i know from this forum, and i'm sure i asked my fair share of stupid questions

But if the basic links were in a "noobs" thread type deal
with the basic auto parts and performance places zzp , intense,wbodystore,3800 perf, thrasher, rock auto, gmparts direct
and so on then they have an easier time getting to the info

Hell maybe it wont work was just a thought Im very logical i guess i forget most arent

thats the problem, you're applying logic lol

if it was in a noob thread, they wouldnt look there, becuase they are not interested in that, they just want their answer and then gone agian lol

i kinda like the idea. if they're serious about modding and/or being here then they'll read it. if not, they're just gonna ask their question anyways and we'll still be annoyed. maybe make everything like the for sale section, 25 posts before you can start a thread
