• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

thinking of switching to bonneville gxp. pros/cons?

Cons are head gaskets. But in 2000 they were revised to help fix the problem. But they still have issues.
Pro-Air ride. Not sure if SSEI's can be had with air ride. I think that's it.

Everyone hates me for this but I would so drive a N* powered STS.

I now hate you for this

Bonnies have had air ride since 1992. With a switch in the trunk, and an air hose.. I'd pump my own tires up when leaving the track.

Pros: sound good and have awesome wheels and looks IMO. The pearl white ones look sweet. There are better sporty sedans though. Impala SS?

Maybe ill just keep the gtp and keep letting it nickle and dime me into poverty. Lol its almost paid off anyways.... on the other hand, i DO have full coverage on it...... lol jk

I know nothing about northstars but my friends STS with the 4.6 went over 250k without any major issues could be a fluke I guess

They're hit and miss

This is exactly what I've seen with research. Some run forever and some need head bolt work done within 80K miles.
A couple other things that they are susceptible to is carbon contamination in the combustion chambers and oil consumption. People that do regular maintenance and use synthetic oil have had good luck with the Northstar.

I love that the intake needs to be removed to change the starter. O_o

Isn't that dumb Rico? It's under the intake. HOWEVER. Cadillac did some research on this and found that nearly all starter failures are from getting dirty and being exposed to the elements. So....figure average life of a starter is at least 150K? Prob more than that. Now picture that same starter sealed. Can probably get double the use out of it. So yes it's more work to change a stater. But the odds of a starter actually going out are much slimmer.

OMG
Someone said something positive about the Northstar.

The engine has seen some design flaws early on but the later engines seem to have held up much better. If I were to decide on one it would definitely be a later model 2002 and up. It aint no 3800 though...easy and inexpensive to work on. The upgrades for the head bolts have been quite successful and this would be first on my list with one on an engine stand in my garage.
