I know nothing about northstars but my friends STS with the 4.6 went over 250k without any major issues could be a fluke I guess

Isn't that dumb Rico? It's under the intake. HOWEVER. Cadillac did some research on this and found that nearly all starter failures are from getting dirty and being exposed to the elements. So....figure average life of a starter is at least 150K? Prob more than that. Now picture that same starter sealed. Can probably get double the use out of it. So yes it's more work to change a stater. But the odds of a starter actually going out are much slimmer.
