Thinking about lowering plus new suspension

You can get AGX struts from Performance peddler w/ "clubgp" discount for $505.98. I got my B&G spings from shox.com. They list the B&G's for $199 and they list the eibachs for $248.96 shipped. You can get the pogo washers from any GM site if you do not want to get them from ZZP or wbody store.

Depends on the car...

People cut the factory ones in the Cobalt all the time with no ill effects even on stock struts...and it SLAMS it.
Um, yes there is ill effects. Cutting coils drastically changes the spring rate. Just because a bunch of ricers thinks its cool doesn't make it right, or safe for that matter.

No, its not all good. Its bad advice. Just because you've driven them doesn't make it safe, or right.

They don't even recommend cutting springs on a Honda board. I'd expect better from a better class of cars and their owners.

Do it right, or don't do it at all.

i would never cut springs. they are designed at that height, coil tolerance, and spring rate for a reason.

ive heard of ppl cutting coils on 4th gen f-bodies with no probs, was even thinking about doing to the prix. a coil is about 2 inch drop

well i have about 4 links i can post up of ppl doing it to their fbodies and they were all very pleased with it. of course there are the "just buy springs, cutting is against the modding law, it will wear your suspension faster, and omg your car will blow up" ppl. i personally dont see a problem with it, especially if youre looking for a dropped look and like stock ride but want to have a little bit better handeling. just do it right and dont cut too much and cut in the right place and everything will be fine. i read that ppl whove done it have drove thousands of miles on them with no adverse affects, so it all comes down to personal preference. as for myself, i think i am going to do it to mine.......

Im pretty sure our springs aren't made with the ability to be cut due to their shape.

youre changing the whole spring geometry when you cuy a coil off. you'll probably end up running into a lot of coil bind over large bumps. you don't want that.

i would think that you could cut from the bottom as long as the top stayed the same, but i am not sure cuz i have never done springs on these cars and i am NO EXPERT, just saying that in theory it may work. when i tear into my suspension and physically see my springs i may change who knows.

You will not get a stock ride with cut springs. Cutting coils out changes the spring rate.

ok to define 'stock ride' in the way i used it in a sentence; if you want a similar ride quality to stock springs and dont want the harshness of aftermarket springs.

but that still isn't true. the spring hate is changed from stock when you cut off any amount of coils. the spring rate is dependent upon the coil lengths and distances that they are seperated from one another, as well as the material. if you cut one end the spring then becomes too harsh, and the opposite from the other end. the spring is also much shorter, which will end up in spring bind (when the entire spring compresses and cannot compress more) which will murderfy your struts.

Is there anything I could do just to replace the stock suspension with out lifting the car?
