Think something chewed my wiring.

Ok, drove the car to work yesterday and it ran flawlessly. Started it up this morning and it sounds like it has a "miss". Drove it home and it was really sluggish and didn't idle smooth.

Opened the hood to find a plug wire in 2 pieces shorting out. Also found another harness with wires that appear to be chewed through.

2 questions:
What brand plug wires do you guys recommend?
Can anyone identify what these wires go to?

any parts store plug wire set works fine.


looks like the o2 pig tail. open up the loom, patch up your wires.

you're # 3 on wires being chewed on this week.
 
yep, critters love to sleep under that engine cover. I've had to repair several peoples wiring harnesses because of this issue. I did one persons and the critter chewed through another part a couple weeks later.

AC Delco OE wires are about as good as you can get. I also like Autolite.
 
Of course the rodent had to chew threw the #6 wire. Struggled with getting the wire off the plug until i made my own make shift tool from a coat hanger than resembles this:

New wire is on and car runs much smoother on 6 cylinders than 5...haha.

Now I have to splice the 4 wires leading to what i think is the o2 sensor.

Couple questions?

Will it hurt the run the car with those wires disconnected? I currently have a "SES" light which i am assuming is due to the wiring.

Whats the best way to splice the wires? Solder? They were chewed in a few places so I'm definitely going to need to add wiring.

If the car runs, go for it. I'd at least make sure no bare wires are exposed that could ground or short out.

Solder them together then cover with shrink-tube. A little di-electric grease will also help keep moisture out if you are in a wet climate.
 
i once had a mouse in my engine bay but that didnt last to long once i started the car up he went running towards the belt then got flung up with a broken neck then hit the garage door you know the old wooden ones that weigh a ton yeah that one. He hit his head on the door and cracked his head will say this tho he was dead dead lol
 


Ok, everything is back together and I have a SES light now. I did not have it the first day i drove the car minus one plug wire. I did notice it on the 1st start up with the new plug wire but before the o2 sensor harness repair.

While I did the o2 sensor harness repair i disconnected the battery. Car appears and feels to be running as it should with the exception of the SES.

Autozone pulled these codes:

P0102 MAF Sensor Circuit Low Freqency
P0141 HO2S-12 Bank 1 Sensor 2 Heater Circuit Malfunction
P0443 EVAP Solenoid No 1 Control Circuit Malfunction
P0135 HO2S-11 Bank 1 Sensor 1 Heather Circuit Malfunction

Any suggestions?

Thanks guys! Looked everything over and it all looks intact. Only area I can't really see well is down below behind the engine.
