Thermostat & Radiator Questions

Yeah........... don't leave that in the winter though....

poppin' freeze plugs is bad.

especially if its on the rear.... you'll have to pull the motor to replace 'em.

would I have to worry about that in the winter in Florida though? It rarely gets down to the mid 20's *F.

I agree, it's just Florida is pretty much always warm (southeast USA), and even in the winter 60's-70's is more the norm than colder temps. We get freezes everyonce in a while, but it's not like we ever get snow on the ground or anything like that.

you should always use antifreeze, it keeps the block from rusting, (rusty blocks clog radiators) lubes the water pump, and raises the boil temps, and keeps the coolant from freezing. your car will thank you in the long run.

we weren't talking about not using it, just how much 50/50 vs 70/30

water doesn't stay as a liquid for as long as antifreeze/dex-cool does...kinda of a problem when the radiator system is built to deal with heated liquids right?

On the RTV. I use a light coating on the stat housing where it mates to the LIM. That's it. Very light and you can start the car immediately after you finish the repair. No need to wait for full cure.
