Thermostat help on a 3.1

I'm changing the thermostat on a 2002 Gran Prix 3.1. Having trouble accessing the bottom bolt on the housing. Any suggestions?
 


I had to go get a cheap wrench from Autozone and bend it. IIRC, the housing is right behind the crossover pipe and is a PITA to get to!!!
 
The bottom of the thermostat housing is slotted so the bolt doesn't need to come completely out.
