I wanted to get one of the Axial rock crawlers, they kind of blew up there for a while. A couple of friends had them and took them on a camping trip and setup our logs as a track we had fun out there even our wives liked it. I haven't messed with my stuff in a while I still need to solder one of the wires back on a Lipo from doing hill climbs with some friends and overheated the solder. I always wanted to make a tracked vehicle like Ripsaw. I was thinking of using the differential out of the Axial but decided it would be easier to use the center diff from an 1/8 scale and use the brakes to steer.

Lol, don't do it it's a trick! You'll end up watching a Nic Case videos and then you'll dump the bug for nitro.

88? you can run 70 out of the box with some nitros.......... 5 years ago the nitro record was 120mph, no clue about today.

It's been longer than 5 years since I looked at nitros. Back then the top speed was 88 for Nitro and 161 for electric. Nitro really needs a CVT to make use of the power they make. They were just coming out with a 3'speed transmission and they need about 10 speeds the powerband is just too narrow, it's like an Indy car engine. I tried to use a 2 speed transmission from a Jato and a Castle 2650 motor and Mamba Monster and ate the transmission up on the 3rd pass. It was kinda cool having a 2 speed, but when it shifted I would have to let off its hard to go full throttle with brushless electrics anyway. I should have used a 36mm motor instead. But with my reinforced Rustler transmission with steel idler I was able to hit 89, get a little air under the body and it's all over and flys into the air.

so you get to play tomorrow morning. another reason for nitro lol. you need to break it in for a tank of gas running rich as hell, but even thats fun. ( only take 20 minutes, then you get to play tuner)
 
when i got mine it was one tank at high idle rich as hell, like spitting raw fuel out the muffler. the take it easy for a few tanks, then tune it for max every thing.
 
Maybe that was for that specific engine that it said 4 tanks letting the engine cool between tanks.

these 4 tanks? you drive it easy? or idle it rich?

this was a old traxas 12 engine, and the same for the 15's i has. not sure what the new ones are spec'ed out to for break in.

either way it dont take 9 hours to break it in.

  1. Start your engine, drive the car slowly around to let the engine heat up. Ease the throttle on and off slowly. Don't let the car stay still for long periods of time, this will heat up the clutch bell and could damage it.
  2. The idle speed should be set as low as possible to keep the engine running when the car is stopped.
  3. 3. The final settings on the top end needle will vary slightly from engine to engine. Look for the following performance signs:
    • Engine should accelerate quickly.
    • Blue/white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. If no blue smoke it coming out, you need to "richen" the top end needle.
  4. Alternate driving at low to medium speeds, with short periods of high speed running
  5. When the engine reaches normal running temperature, it will pick up speed and performance will improve.
  6. When the tank is close to running out bring in the car and shut off the engine. Let it cool completely, then refuel and run again. Part of the break-in process is also to heat cycle the parts in side the engine.
  7. Remember always run the engine with a clean air filter."
 
i used to put mine on a block so the wheels spun lol giving it a rev every now and then to keep it running.

id have to think they still have a low speed mix screw still and a high speed mix screw.

you tune it pretty much like a 2 stoke weed whacker engine.
 
Took it out on its first outing today, ended up in a puddle of mud lol.
And I just found out they make a bunch of aluminum upgrade parts for my car. I cant find the aluminum shocks or steel drive shafts anywhere though :(
