Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

The Silva bullet... he actually did something to his car!

Re: The Silva bullet... suspension refresh, parts list

For example a 31.75mm (1¼ “) by 1.24mm (0.049”) tube bar is the equivalent of a
23.0mm solid bar, this solid bar has an OD which is 72.6% (23/31.75 x 100) of the tube
OD, and an increase in weight of 71.5% over the tube bar.
Another example is a 25.4mm by 6.35mm tube will act like a 25.0 mm solid bar as in
torsion and bending (swaybar).

Just to show how much it varies.

And without knowing what the ID of the GMPP bars are... I'd say skip the GMPP bars based on the fact that the stockers fail because they are hollow.

Re: The Silva bullet... suspension refresh, parts list

the fact that the stockers fail because they are hollow.

Sorry, that's wrong :( .

Stockers fail because stress is too high. Either need a larger dia or a solid design.

Document concludes that having a larger diameter, hollow bar, providing the same strength/rigidity as a smaller diameter, solid bar........shows that the hollow will weigh less.

Which is all I was trying to say.

Re: The Silva bullet... suspension refresh, parts list

And it also concludes that 200 grammes in unsprung weight, isn't very much.

Vehicle mass changes more than 2 lbs based on what you ate yesterday and whether or not you had a bowel movement before driving the vehicle.

So soccer moms in their Montana's break stockers because the stress is too high?

Not because the mild steel bars are rotting right where they are stamped?

Re: The Silva bullet... suspension refresh, parts list

got my poly uppers in yesterday. they made much more of a difference than what i was expecting. and i love the wheel vibrations, makes me feel like ive actually got something under the hood lol

Re: The Silva bullet... suspension refresh, parts list

Told ya..it's odd that one mount can make such a difference isn't it?

Re: The Silva bullet... suspension refresh, parts list

I love my poly mounts, its funny how some of the smallest parts can make the biggest difference in feel.

Re: The Silva bullet... suspension refresh, parts list

Yeah it is amazing. It just feels much tighter and more responsive... And I may have accidentally broke the tires free and they felt much easier to spin lol briefly of course.

Edit: hey bill, does purple Dino do fender work? I'm trying to figure out just how aggressive my wheel setup could be.

I'll do you a favor... Do not Try to wrestle them out. Get a knife with a good grip and cut them out. If you do this with the zzp two piece mounts it'll take you ten minutes.

I thought my 6'3" 300 lb self could pry them out. 3 hours later i decided
To cut them, 5 minutes later I was beating my self up for not doing that to begin with

Re: The Silva bullet... suspension refresh, parts list

ill try with a little pry bar i have. how much of a ***** was it to settle the engine down on the mounts?

Re: The Silva bullet... suspension refresh, parts list

i did the uppers. a couple yanks on the alt bracket get everything back in place

Re: The Silva bullet... suspension refresh, parts list

was looking at sway bars/trailing arms and i thought of ya Scott and this thread, whats the latest on the suspension setup?

Re: The Silva bullet... suspension refresh, parts list

I did poly upper mounts in the GTP when I had it and didn't notice any difference at all. I did flip the stock mounts right after getting the car, but didn't think the flipped stock mounts really did much. Glad you're happy with them though.

Re: The Silva bullet... suspension refresh, parts list

Probably a bit.

Just saying its very inefficient use of material, that's all.

AFAIK only solid is what the aftermarket makes so there isn't much option.

You can't get the aftermarkets in hollow as far as I know and believe it or not, the solids are cheaper then the OEM hollow. If you can find one.

Your right about the rigidity and everything.

But the hollow stock bar fails as a result of stress and CORROSION. If they didn't corrode they would hold the strength.

.. although he didnt do much, he did something

painted fascias and silver, streched, inlays lol

i was pissed off while doing the inlays, girlfriend and mother ganged up on me lol. so they may not have been as delicately handled as they should have been. the end result is a couple creases and one stretched and crooked A. oh well.

...now the real reason for the bump. i think im done, mentally, with this car. its great and all. she treats me better than i treat her. but my soul is restless. i'm yearning for something with a better fit and finish, something with a different drivetrain, and power adder.

not that one exactly, just illustrating my point. thing is now seems like the perfect time to move on. aside from my public suby lust, financially it seems right to me. as of now im making some pretty good doll hairs, with no REAL bills. so i have a decent disposable income. in a few years however its VERY likely that ill be supporting a family. so finances will tighten up. why not take the time now to get the cost of the car out of the way? at the same time ill be building credit. of course the 5M and turbo dont hurt this equation.

as of now im thinking ill finish up the GPs suspension. then id like to see my aesthetic plans for the car be realised. After that though, i think im out.

ultimately it comes down to me and what i want, but i do want some input from you guys. do you think im just being a bit materialistic? in a way I think so. but my justifications make alot of sense as well.

chime in *****es.

i moved on. it was a great choice. even for being slower and a POS at times, this impreza is so much more car.

I don't work on Subies...you'll need to find the "Bill" of subies. =0)

honestly thats one of the reasons i havent moved yet. having someone as knowledgable and helpful as you withing driving distance is like a god send. it will be much tougher on me as far as modding goes. i may have to get MY hands dirty for once lol.

either that or i can force you to work on it.
