Such extreme temperature ranges can cause thermal stress cracks in the aluminum casting. Think about what happens when you pour ice cold water into a metal pan fresh off the stove. *crack*
 


it might be, dident help any so i wont be doing it again. i see alot of guys do it at the track tho with no problems. but it dident help so i dont care.

:pthat's what happen to me last thursday, i was cooking pork chop in a safe glass pan in the oven. after the pork chop was done without thinking i put the pan in the sink and pour cold water from the faucet in....CRACK! went the glass pan.
