The National Defense Authorization Act

I am not sure if any of you heard about this absurd law that was passed by the Senate, but I thought I'd mention it just to make you Americans aware, since it mostly applies to Americans.

This law basically places "...domestic terror investigations and interrogations into the hands of the military and which would open the door for trial-free, indefinite detention of anyone, including American citizens, so long as the government calls them terrorists."

Are they pushing it with this new law? God help the American people if this passes, really. They can basically arrest anyone for anything, without letting the person know what he/she did, without trial, and for as long as they want you detained for, if that isn't the beginning on a Big Brother nation, then I don't know what is.

The thing is, it's like they're keeping this law on the down-low on purpose. Even the article mentions that.

"Termed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and drafted behind closed doors by Senators Carl Levin (D-Mich.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) the NDAA would:

1) Explicitly authorize the federal government to indefinitely imprison without charge or trial American citizens and others picked up inside and outside the United States;

(2) Mandate military detention of some civilians who would otherwise be outside of military control, including civilians picked up within the United States itself; and

(3) Transfer to the Department of Defense core prosecutorial, investigative, law enforcement, penal, and custodial authority and responsibility now held by the Department of Justice."

Thoughts, opinions, concerns?

I do realize politics here is an ehh subject, but I believe this is extremely important.

heres whats gonna happen. it wont pass, theyre gonna wait year or two, possibly allow a terrorist group to attack a place in the states and then push it thru congress, just like they did with PATRIOT act.

That sounds like the best way to justify passing it.

But the way I see it, still doesn't mean crap.

I don't see how they can call this country the land of the free, when some of your freedom is slowly being taken away.

That law can be classified as treason.

Since that bill rarely gets any media attention, just wanted to update saying that the bill was passed by the President a few days ago....

I'm moving to Australia, where the Prime Minister floats naked in your local pond

Thanks, RK, for bringing this up and following up.

People really need to become involved. The majority of the USA is being overrun by the minority, simply because they are willing to have a voice and speak up, while the majority sit back and watch things happen. If we want our country back, we'll need to take it back by becoming involved in government affairs.

Think about this - when was the last time anyone asked the local dog warden about their views on foreign policy? family values? immigration? Does this sound silly? Not if a person considers that the dog warden might become a township trustee. The trustee might become a local mayor. The mayor might become a representative. A representative could become a governor. The governor could become the President. Ask the questions before voting for these people at ANY level.

Keep contacting the Representatives and Senators on the issues, as well. Our voices will be heard!

People don't get involved because they feel they don't have any real power. The average American does not have a lot of political, social, or economic power, collectively yes, but it's not easy to move the masses and keep them going...

Thanks remnant, this was brought up in my Constitutional Law class...

I don't think this is necessarily bad...

When they can arrest you for wrecking your car on a wet road because you were possibly sliding in the direction of the White House hundreds of miles away; you will then.

Gotta deal with them Mexicans for now.

I don't know if this is supposed to be a joke or not...regardless, don't post **** like this.

Not even guilty until proven innocent in the court of law anymo.
Nope the Media Deep Fries you before you even get to that

Dave's got ya there, Aaron.

you don't KNOW what's going to happen in the future.

and it's **** because that is YOUR opinion and it could be offensive to other people. therefore keep those comments to yourself.

Its not opinion that illegals are hurting the country and economy, its fact.

And no, American citizens don't have any power. The country spoke out against the ObamaCare BS in DROVES with the vast majority not wanting it to go through and it did anyway. What do you think citizens speaking out against this would have done? Not a damn thing, thats what. Congress is about themselves and only about themselves.
