The MPG test -- with mods

So there's that big ol' thread of everyone posting their MPG's. But on my other thread it was asked what kind of MPG's I was getting with my mods. Well I've always had an issue keeping my foot out of the gas, and was getting about 22 MPG ave per tank. But over the weekend I went on a 6 hour drive to Northern Cali, and decided it was a perfect time to get the cruising miles. I tested both there and back. There, I had cruise control on 80 almost the entire time, and at some points I would slingshot around slower people (with a high of 103mph) and the A/C was only on for the last 70 miles or so. I got 28.5 mpg on that...not bad at all.

But the best was on the way back home. A/C was on for the first 250 miles, but i cut the speed to 75 for the majority of the trip. With other bursts of speed to get around slower individuals. Filled up and calculated this morning at 30.68 mpg! Not too shabby!

Wonder what I could do if I actually followed the speed limit (that'll never happen)

I'm lucky if mine ever goes above 20mpg :( I wonder what I'm doing wrong. I've done a transmission fluid and filter change. I have an Overkill PCM tuned for 93 octane. I run synthetic oil (Pennzoil platinum, K&N Oil filter). Have an open cone intake, and the computer is not throwing any codes.

Do you just do lots of city driving?

I changed my sparkplugs and started getting 2-4 more mpg. I also accelerate as slowly as i can. WOT runs will kill your mpg's.

Yea i cant believe how my mpgs keep going up and up since i was stock.Im lovin it.Instead of goin thru a full tank every 6-7 days im now filling up every 10 days. I think im gettin 20-22 city and i rarely do highway driving but i think its around 30.

My car's in dire need of a seafoaming too! I've always heard of peeps getting better mpg's after that.

on the highway i get the best mileage at 75 to 80 mph,(30 mph) by like 3 or 4 miles more than i get @ 55 or 65. so at 80 mph yours should be up around 30 mpg.

when i turn the a/c off my mpg go up 2 or 3 mpg on the highway as well.

How heavy is your right foot? After I lightened up my right foot while driving around in town my mileage increased significantly.

Yeah 75-80 was the sweet spot for my GT and same goes for my GTP, the GT got 18 city and 26 on the highway the GTP gets 18-20 in the city and 26-30 on the highway.

i noticed that when i cleaned my MAF my mpg went up a pretty good amount, you guys could try that. also you actually use less gas by accelerating faster (NOT WOT) and getting up to your cruising speed than you do by accelerating very slowly to your cruising speed

i try to get to 30 mph as fast as i can, with in reason, not wot, then let off and my car then locks into 3 rd gear and holds pretty tight, then proceed to light foot it all over town.
