The Long Haul...

So here the question I post to everyone.

Do you think my GTP will make a 2,500 mile trip? It'll be loaded with four people plus luggage.

Now here that story on the car.

I bought it with around 190k on it (give or take) and the tranny crapped out on it. I put a tranny in it that had 60K from a smashed regal.
It's stock minus an intake, but I've gone through and put new LIM gaskets on it. New S/C coupler, etc.

She's got 205K miles on her now.

If she breaks down and it's major she's getting left were she is and we are hiking back?

What do you think?

I don't see a problem if the maintenance is up to snuff and the car runs well.

I think nothing of driving my high mileage 3800's cross state or cross country.

How well was/is the car maintained? If you've kept up on everything it should be fine, grand prixs are not junk, I've driven mine all over the east coast and never worried.

I would not worry about it, mine hauled 5 people and luggage down to florida a few years ago with 130k on it.

Not something I'd be worried about. Check your fluid levels half way through the trip if you're feeling paranoid.

I keep up on it and have done all the preventative maintainance that I could think.

I'm a little worried because this will be longest trip I'm going to make with it.

Tom... at 156K I hopped in my Bonneville and drove from Connecticut to Oregon on a near marathon run. 36 hours got me to Idaho, 8 hours of sleep and another 10 hours for a picture in front of the Pacific. Hit the track with some buddies and then turned it around and came back.

At highway speeds/long trips our cars perform great because they are up to temp and just cruising. It's really not working or beating the car. Stopping, starting, short trips etc are what hurts and beats a car.

I'm currently rocking a Regal with 176K on the original drivetrain. The trans showed me a couple signs of clutches wearing and welll....I'm dragging my feet on putting the new one in. Might be just to see how far it'll go.

Thanks for the feedback.

I feel better about making the trip now that I know everyone agrees. I'm going to give the GTP a good once over before I leave just in case.

Yeah, I've done 1000mile trips without a second thought. That's days after a fresh engine swap too.

Just check everything over. Make sure everything is up to snuff, and bring along anything that you might need to fix a minor problem if it arises.

yup. take some coolant with you and keep fluids in check. watch temperature levels and you should be good to go. 3800s are very reliable once you get past the cheap plastic engine parts :)

I'm down in state college for the semester. But, I live in Sweet Valley but my family is based in Swoyersville.
