The IncREDi-hoopdy Official 5-Speed Build

Another build day down. The IncREDi-hoopdy got a new windshield today, so that was good. The cylinder head got drilled and tapped for the upper engine mount. All of the accessories are installed minus the SC, which should be ready for assembly tomorrow. I started dissecting the trans part of the harness for rewiring. I somehow misplaced my O2 extension harness, so I'll have to make one. Typical stuff I guess.

The not so typical...I was poking around in the trunk and decided I really didn't like the look of my strut towers. My decision was to remove the rear strut, and drill out the spot welds on the plate underneath. Well, I took out the rear seat, removed the rear speaker tray, and embedded the 4" speaker about 1/8" under my left middle finger trying to remove the D/S rear seatbelt. After the nausea went away, I removed the rear strut and drilled out the spot welds.

Mind you, my strut tower was only bubbled...no visible pushing through of the rear strut.

Here is the rear plate removed.

So now my dad is going to plate that side while I disassemble the P/S so we can do the same there. Removing the plate is rather easy and as long as your struts aren't through the trunk, this is how I'd repair them from now on.

Redline we need pics and part numbers for those
Since I have nearly nothing into my gutted coupe it will be getting all the cancer fixed while im in Washington d.c.

Nice Jason...really coming along. On the braided stuff etc. Summit is getting stuff here in 2 days or less, so you should see it quick.

Not going braided...just need adapters for my FPR to mount to my fuel rails. I thought about going braided, but it's just something I don't "need" to do right now. Maybe in the future I'll get tired of the factory neoprene, but with the 5 speed I have lots more room to go in and play around later if I get the urge.

Do you have any pics of the factory L36 lines fitting the L67...cause I can never get them to not look kinked or about to combust on the EGR.

If you decide to braid later..holler I should have a spare set of swageloks on hand, just ordered two sets for one job.

No, I never really took many pics of the car before this build. I wish I did because there was enough length on my fuel lines I kinda coiled them up.

Yeah, getting married, house projects, and getting back into the V8 thing don't leave much time for the Wbody thing. Plus everyone kind of scattered on the boards so staying in touch (and even finding where people post) has been challenging.

Looking good dude! I guess I never realized that the strut towers rust like they do. My cars got the under body spray in the wheel wells.

Another non-fantastic update!! Today started off the way yesterday ended...removing the rear strut tower plate. In the process of drilling out the spot welds, a piece of metal bounced off my forehead and landed in my eye. So, I had to take a break, go to an optometrist where it was found embedded in my upper eyelid and scratching the crap out of my cornea. Once that was removed, I came home to this:

The passenger side was obviously much worse off than the driver side. Also, I found some more rust under the car and took the liberty of cutting it out because my dad didn't seem busy enough. LOL

Afterwards, I moved on to engine assembly:

The IncREDi-hoopdy obviously needed to have a bright red Gen V. Tomorrow, my fittings for the FPR should arrive and I should get to test fire the engine. Meanwhile, my dad is plating the rear strut towers and fixing the other rust areas I cut out. I also need to make a run to a junkyard for a few items...namely a 4T60 D/S axle and some electrical connectors. A trip to the parts store will also probably occur at the same time unless I can find my injector O-rings kicking around.

man, safety glasses when working on rusty crap. hope that heals fast, eye related injury's sucks.

your dad just got work for the next few days it would seem.

and that trans looks good all painted up in there.

looking good. when do you think you can drive it? next week-ish? you seem to be on the move so far lol

I had my glasses on, but it bounced in behind them...no they're not safety glasses, but still. LOL My dad will probably have the rear struts done tomorrow. The other rust is minor by comparison and he'll have it all welded up in no time. As for the trans, it doesn't look too bad. Kinda glad I half-assed threw some paint on it. Thanks for giving me the push to do it. As far as driving...I'm not leaving PA until it's mobile under its own power. Whether it will be completely finished or not has yet to be determined.
