The Hobo G35, now with retrofits

Re: The silver surfer

you just tell the shop you need the dp to be the same length as it is now. if its got a o2 bung by the flange leave a inch of pipe past the o2, then weld that to the cat, remove the rest of pipe to make the cat fit.

Re: The silver surfer

buy a frozen boost free flow cat, its like 40 bucks.

no way id reuse a cat thats smaller then the down pipe. or a used one either.

and you can always have the new cat welded to the dp out of the car at a welding shop. i got a few local iron railing and fab shops i go to for stuff like this. if you bring them a bung they can weld that in too.

i think they look at it like 20 bucks is beer money lol it takes no time really.

This.. Hell I reworked my SDs myself and just paid $50 for the welding

Re: The silver surfer

Everything in this place is expensive. There's no such thing of the mom and pop shop anymore. Just major chains and sideshops hiking prices up based on the customer lol. Smh

The silver surfer

That's why you do the hard work yourself. Just get either a high flow cat or one of those fake cat and bring the downpipe and cat to someone to get welded and do the actual install yourself.

Re: The silver surfer

Might have to a ride outside of the city for cheaper prices and I see what you mean REDCOMPG. Ive had this downpipe in my trunk for a while now and it's time to put it on.

Re: The silver surfer

The welding itself shouldn't cost you more then $50 or someone's trying to get over on you.. It won't even take a hour worth of work

Re: The silver surfer

google welding shops. i always just stop by, be nice and say, im looking for some help, can you guys weld a cat in a pipe for me?

ive done this at like 3 or 4 shops all over the place, when i needed al ladder racks welded it took a few shops till i found one that could do it. they all wanted to help, they all came out looked at what i was doing to them directed me to another shop they knew of if it was out there scope of repairs they could do.

most of the time they dont know what to charge. you showed up with all the parts, they just welded it up for ya. so it takes them 15 to 20 minutes, they hit you with a 20 or 30 dollar bill.

Re: The silver surfer

Yea the cutting and welding and install. I just called a friend on mines and he said there's a shop that will do it all for 140.00 so I guess there's deals out there. Just gotta know someone

Re: The silver surfer

down pipe comes out with 4 bolts, get under there and start wrenching already. id rather save a 100 bucks in the long run,

Re: The silver surfer

Money saved could go towards other things. Hmmm. Guess I'll start wrenching on my off day.

Re: The silver surfer

talk to your friends shop ask what they want to just weld it up parts in hand.

or see if they have a cheap cat to install too. most of the time a cat will cost 200 at a shop installed. so thats hit or miss for sure.

Re: The silver surfer

I could try that. They took a laptop for my friends custom work on his car. So they make deals

Re: The silver surfer

sounds like the old meineke shop i used to have. if you rolled in the shop with a nice muscle car you got a instant deal. they loved doing 3 inch custom work. last one they did for a friend on a 67 1/2 camaro they only charged him like 350 for a full SS dual 3 inch from the headers back. mandrel bent too.

i guess they made money off all the stock boring cars lol

Re: The silver surfer

Yup that's what I did I knew of a few shops locally.. Stopped by explained to them and showed them what I wanted a couple recommended I tig weld it instead and directed me to another place... Went to this fab shop he wanted to charge $200 to do the welded told him **** that drove down the road to this mom n pop shipped shower him he said yea I can do it it'll be like $50. Was even nice enough to just tact weld it for me while I took it back home and finished cutting and mocking it up over the course of two week working on it when I could..

We all know how goofy SDs look like so I won't post that but end results
