The FWD Cobra: Just one more thing then the MG gets all the attention

Re: The FWD Cobra

1st side is done. This is the coils maxed out so I hope they settle a bunch or I'm going to need shorter springs.

Re: The FWD Cobra

Hopefully is settles a bunch or I'm going to have to order shorter springs.

Might order parts for the rear at the same time if it comes to that.

Re: The FWD Cobra

I ordered new springs for the front and all the necessary parts to convert the rears as well. So I should be on coils all the way around this weekend and hopefully some slammage will be going on.

Re: The FWD Cobra

do you have any idea on how much strut travel was left with the coils maxed?

edit: looks like you have a decent amount left from the picture a page ago. The springs are huge! haha. This is awesome

Re: The FWD Cobra

No idea how much stout travel is left. These are shorter than stock so that helps.

I ordered some 500# 10" springs for the front and 400# 8" for the rear. I also need to slot the holes and change the bearings to the bottoms. I bent a pair because of misalignment when I lowered the car. Also I'm going to order helper springs down the road, didn't this go around because of parts for the rear.

And does anyone know where to get some bump stops for coil covers. I ordered a pair of what I though were for this application buy apparently not.

Re: The FWD Cobra

I used the computer screen and my thumb to measure whats left of the strut travel haha. I think you should be able to tuck and ride comfy with the shorter springs. I don't know anything about bump stops though

Re: The FWD Cobra

Ah the old rule of thumb method

I've also got a clunking, like loud, over speed bumps. I'm going to guess that's the coilover spring coming off the top mount. Also have a small one just driving around, I'm wondering what I left loose. To bad I won't be home till Friday to look at it.

Re: The FWD Cobra

the spring should never come out of the seats when the car has weight on it, like ever (unless you're going off some sweet jumps).

i bet it's the shaft nut not being tight or you put the poopy stock top mounts back on and the bearings are shot. the spring would make more of a 'twang' type sound, anyway.

Re: The FWD Cobra

I used the stock mounts with a top hat. I'll look at it when I get home this weekend.

And the mounts aren't even a year old. The pop is over speed bumps, but gone if I just crawl, and a quiet popping if I'm doing a u-turn

Re: The FWD Cobra

I thought about that to. But for me to have coil bind I'd have to have more spring than strut travel than spring and I don't think I have that problem.

Re: The FWD Cobra: coil overs round two...sorta

I came back home today from South Dakota expecting all my parts to be in so I can swap the springs up front and convert the rears. I have almost all the parts except for the damn spring hats. So all I'm doing this weekend is changing out the front springs and slotting the holes. I have no one idea why the hats are taking extra time, I put all the orders in on Sunday and everything came in by Wednesday, weren't on backorder either.

I got the suspension right where I wanted it.

But I was riding the bump stops so I brought it up 1.5" and it rides good. Time to modify the strut mounts. So its riding about where it was before I believe.

Re: The FWD Cobra: coil overs round two...sorta

And found out what my clunking was, the sprung was rubbing on the sleeve

Re: The FWD Cobra: coil overs round two...sorta
