So a week ago my coolant light came on went to the dealer figured out it was the lower intake gasket, got raped by them $550 for everything didn't have the time to do it myself. So today i get in and am on my way to Indianapolis and i start hearing a sound and it starts shifting hard. Get back home call the dealer and take it over they look at it for over a hour not finding anything then one of there mechanics come up and tells them that it sounds like the flex plate is fitting on the flywheel. Come to find out after putting the car on the lift and looking at the flywheel there is a grove in it showing. There diagnosis is that there is a crack on the flywheel which is causing it to hit the flex plate. So by having the LIG repaired its caused the pressure in the motor to go back to normal which is in turn effecting other things. As of the tranny they say that some pressure solenoid is going bad inside causing it to shift hard. Quote to fix all $1300 f that I'm trading it in for a GTO

LIM gasket replacement shouldn't really affect it like that unless they didn't change the oil afterwards, but anywho GTO's are cool :)

Raped? That's a thousand dollar plus job 'round these parts.

If that's your whip in your avatar, you done f*cked the transmission yourself with those sewer lids you got strapped on anyway.

Sorry 'bout your tough luck.

a LIM gasket change should not cause that to happen. i say screw it and get the GTO. unless another member knows what happened.

Sounds like your the one getting ripped off if it cost you a grand to replace a lower intake gasket and i don't really see how a set of 20's f*ucked up the tranmission there aluminum not heavy at all have had them for 2 years now and this is the first time its messed up at all sooo.... but whatever your right seeing how you've drove my car and everything

Me? Nah, I do my own work. Y'just pay through the nose for auto service around here.

Glass transmission. You got it, I got it, we all do. Except the guys with performance rebuilt ones. These things burn up quick, even with tiny wheels. Nevermind heavier ones.

Um, flywheel hitting the flexplate? You damn well better get a second opinion, because your car does not have a flywheel and a flexplate, it has a flexplate only. They are essentially the same thing and you do not have both. If you have a automatic transmission you have a flexplate, if you have a manual you have flywheel. The only thing that the teeth touch either way should be the starter gear which retracts when you're not cranking the car over.

And lower intake gaskets causing the "motor pressure to go back to normal?" Run away from that shop man. The stuff they're saying doesn't even make sense. My head hurts from trying to make sense of the garbage they're feeding you.

kyle man..these boys is educated. i tell you what. i saw he typed flywheel and flexplate and wanted to stop reading there...but curiousity got the best of me and i finished his story/rant..needless to say i lost a couple iq points reading this

Lower intake gasket $54.99
Rebuilt transmission $1300
Realizing that any rim heavier than stock will destroy your car priceless

Interesting discussion guys.

$550 for a LIM job is actually pretty good. Gaskets, coolant and oil run a little over a $100 by themselves and the job should pay warranty at least 3-4 hours. Overall a decent price IMO.

On the rims damaging the trans. They can stress the clutches. In your case though your diagnosis was for a PCS, which is the most common issue in our transmissions and rims won't hurt a soleniod. As long as the trans is out of the car to swap the flex plate, it's a 20ish screw job to get to the pcs. Call it 30 minutes. $1300 isn't a great price to pull a trans and swap a flex. But them those two parts alone at the dealer are likely $400 of that.
