The Daytona

Oh hai. I think it's time I made a thread like this. Well, my cool story starts off with the fact that an old hag hit my truck (2001 s-10 ZR2) and totaled it. While heartbroken, they gave me $8800 for a s-10 with bedliner for paint and lots of off road abuse. So I took her insurance company's check and ran, lol. (fun fact, that accident was a quarter mile away from my first accident) So I then thought about what to get. I could have done some part swapping and got another s-10, but I wanted a car again. I could afford a G8, but I didn't want to limit my funds and I was, and still am saving up to put a down payment on a house. A gto would be cool, but I'd be afraid to drive that thing in the winter. Then I thought about my first car, a 97 GTP black coupe. Which was trashed by yet another old hag (my first accident). So I started looking around, I wanted a special package or option to it (daytona, 40th an., gtx, etc.) and as luck would have it I found my car on CL.

I sent an email to the poster, and waited.........and nothing. Then a couple days later the post was deleted. FML. So I start my search again, and I stumble upon a strangely similar Daytona at a dealership. Same cross drilled/slotted rotors, MPS, etc. So it looks like the guy traded it in, ok no big deal I call tomorrow about it. I call the dealership, and they say they have it but a guy put a down payment on it, FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU so I say if anything changes just give me a call. So I all but give up and start looking again when about 10 minutes later I get a call from a different guy from the dealership saying the guy who put the DP on the car couldn't get a loan for the car(it was a year too old it seemed for the loan). So guess who went down that day, drove it, and bought it. This fugging guy.

But wait, there's MOAR. So I'm trolling CL for parts, when I see an ad for "GTP DAYTONA" parts. I figured it was relevant to my interests, so I click on it. It was stock valvetrain parts, all the stuff that was missing on the car(engine cover, lift brackets, drip pan, etc.) and some random sensors. So I figure, HEY! The original owner! So I send an email, and sure enough he responds back saying it was his. He told me about the car, how he was the second owner (first lady owned it for about 5 months, then traded it in for an SUV) and he's owned it all this time. He seemed to be a gearhead like me, (when I bought it the car came with the upgraded brakes, 1.9 harland sharp rockers and LS6 springs, MPS, etc.) and he kept the car in fantastic shape. According to him he never drove it in the winter, and it shows. He emailed me all the service work and information. Even a copy of the window sticker! This is like some hollywood movie ****, amiright?

Thanks Bill, the stance didn't seem to change that much from my worn struts, but the handling is night and day. Now that I have poly bushings it feels like a racekar. Sandman the deflector and rainguards came with the car. I'm not for or against the deflector, but since I have it I might as well keep it.

Ever do that front swaybar, or was it just the center bushings you were thinking about doing?

Well I lowered the cradle to pull out the stocker and mock up the gmpp, but the stock bracket for the center bushings wouldn't fit over the replacement. there was so much rust that it prevented me from using it, and I figured I could still use the stock front since I used the stock rear brackets. So the stocker is on for now but do I just get new brackets from a gp or do I need to get some from an impala or monte carlo?
what was the price?

Not to be rude, but I'd like to keep that to myself.

The stock brackets should work fine for you, mine did at least. And you don't need to lower the cradle to change out the swaybar, just one of the tire. Just to make it a little easier.

Previous owner took them off and had the car repainted kind of badly

That sucks man. I do get my balls busted by friends about the colors in it but I think it adds a really nice look to the cars IMO.

You're not a GP owner unless you love the Daytons.

I've actually seen two other 00 Daytonas in town, 1 98, and a handful for SEs. For some reason this town has a good selection of GPs. There's a 98 Daytona that's been for sale for a long time now. Random fact: my car was originally registered in Daytona...

Ed.. the stocker bracket should work. However I find a lot of vasoline is needed to grease them up and get fresh bushings into them.

Truth. That's cool how yours was actually in daytona beach. Mine was from TN, I think our cars came with a wine cooler and a handheld scanner from the factory, So it makes sense most are from the south. Lol

Great, thanks bill. Would you have any kicking around by chance, or sams may be the option?
