Considering the different environments I would imagine you may have had issue due to the salt and snow and crap being all over it for 5 +/- years worth. You're winters are completely different from us here in the south. Just my opinion on the matter, but could be you just had bad luck with the lines.
 
That was when I was in Colorado plenty of snow same thing though with Arizona both dry climates but opposite in temps no issues

Plus if your concerned wrap them with sealing tape (rubber tape wrap) if you're truly concerned
 
F-body's installed... Was going to do the bigger Corvette brakes but didn't want to deal with the offset issue, so done for now.
 
I am getting ready to order rotors. Two questions:

1- I saw a post in this thread stating that Fbody rotors are thicker than Impala rotors. Was this just referring to 06+? My brackets are from 2002 Impala, and the part number for the rotor is the same part number as the Camaro rotor. The specs also show they are the same thickness. I assume this post was referring to 06 and up and that for 2002 it doesn't matter which I order (Impala or Camaro)?

2-for anyone with CENTRIC rotors--I am impressed with what I have seen and I think I will be going this route. Question is, they have an 'economy' rotor and a 'premium' rotor. The specs (size, weight, etc.) are the same, and when I called them they said that really the only differences were the e-coating that keeps them from rusting and that they might have a finer machine finish. The e-coating probably looks nice, but I have never had a rotor come with this and never had a rust problem. My question is: is it worth virtually double the price to get the 'premium' rotor ($41) over the 'economy' rotor ($19)? They also have a 'high performance' rotor with high carbon for $60. This hardly seems worth it for mostly a daily driver. For anyone that has the Centric rotors, which version do you have? The comments have all been positive that I have heard, but I want to make sure I am getting the best value. From what I can tell there is not much extra you are getting for double the price. Any other thoughts on that?
 


what kind of driving do you do? I would personally go with the high carbon ones, but I am a brake snob and perhaps that is overkill. Centric is a good choice either way.. I just put a set of the ecoated ones on my tahoe, but haven't had them long enough to say how long it lasts. I live in the Northeast and winters around here KILL rotors.

It is mostly a highway driven daily driver, but it will likely see additional around town driving soon. I wouldn't say I am a very spirited driver. I have also never had rotors rust out or need replaced due to the elements or anything other than wear. The e-coating sounds nice and I am sure it looks better, but I am just not sure it is worth double the price in my situation. Does anyone have the 'economy' Centric rotors that can chime in on the quality/durability?
 
Hello all, kinda new, mostly been lurking for sometime. I have an 04 Comp G, small mods done performance wise, but now it is time to do some suspension/brake updates. At the miles where I am starting to get the dreaded squeak from the rear and one of my struts are leaking. So I am going to do everything. Mind you I run a full service shop in St.Louis, so cost and parts are not an issue. Here is what I have figured out and am doing. Suspension- new OE struts, springs, all new bars in the rear, new end links and sway bar bushings. On the rear brakes looking at just leaving stock and doing Powerstop or Centric drilled rotors and pads, or swapping to the GXP set up. My question is will I get much better stopping power with the rear GXP setup? I seen that I have to change the wheel hub assemble.. but why it is the same part on my 04 as it is on a 07 GXP. I have matched both of them side by side and by part number. On the front I am doing new struts and springs, new end links and sub frame bushings. Doing must just for the hell of it. On the brakes I am looking at most likely doing the 06+ Impala dual piston setup, same rotors and pads on the rear. Mostly doing it for looks. From I have read the 06+ Impala is a better or easier swap than the GXP front. is that correct? Less pedal fade and no need for brake pedal assemble. Also adding lines. Any input?
 
i'd leave the rear alone and just get the updated front brakes and call it good. for just regular kinds of driving you're typically not going to need a lot of braking power. the bigger you go with the brakes the less likely they'll fade and give you some more stopping power, but for the cost it was never that appealing to me unless you're just going for big honkin brakes to fill up the wheels you have on the car.
 
I do drive it hard sometimes. I just have the factory 17" True Comp G wheels. The price is not that bad for me, most of the parts will be swapped out with my vendors.
 


As I was making my list for parts to get, I thought of something. On the 04 Comp G's the piston on the rear caliper is a twist in, on the GXP, Monte Carl's and such are push in. Does that matter and what is done with the parking brake? Or is it possible to just use GXP or Monte Carlo brackets and keep the factory calipers? Mostly just want a bigger rotor.
 
For the BIGGEST brake in it`s class. The PARK AVE ULTRA feature a bigger vented rotor and is also required it`s abutment bracket. Also the Bonneville SSEi. There is also an Aluminum caliper with a dual piston which can fit the GP and PA rotor and abutment bracket. I believe it`s(aluminum Caliper) from the the 2000 yrs model Grand Am. The alum caliper will required little modification. By en-large it slider pin BOLT holes. The aluminum caliper is beneficial to suspension movement and UN-sprung weight. Less moving weight on the suspension is an effort to gain Strut and spring precise performance. Check you my channel stevexnycperformance - YouTube
 
lets say I didn't want to pay shipping from the states and the wait time necessary

could I order all of the parts from a GM dealership for example?

I would need part #'s for everything I would need to upgrade with the f-body brake kit for the 04+ GP, maybe even a VIN number for a 98-02 f-body car because they seem to ask for that every time I get a part for a car

why is it the f-body brake kit only mentions 97-03 gp's?
