TEMP light on and TRAC OFF?

sheffy

New member
when my 1997 Grand prix gt 3.8 gets warm a TEMP light comes on even though the car is not hot and then suddenly the TRAC OFF lights up and the car feels like it is towing a MACK truck. It is similar to when the traction control kicks in while in the snow... I cannot shut the trac off light off unless I shut the car off and then its ok until it does it again. Seriously the car wont go and it really wont rev up that well even in park. It has only been doing this when the car gets warm about 15 to 20 mins into the ride.... my questions are... what is the TEMP light up on the dash for? and where should I start to make the car run like it does before this TRAC OFF light comes on?

I am thinking it may have something to do with the abs sensor because I had the cv axle out and replaced the other day and now this is happening.... PLEASE HELP! :th_scratchhead:

TCS light is from a HUB assembly...the HUB might not be bad, but the sensor prolly is. And to get a new sensor...you need a new hub. Buy one, TIMKIN brand...from either Rockauto.com or Autozone.

As for the sluggish part...I've never heard of the hub sensor have anything to do with it driving any different.

well my thought is that the tcs is acting as though the wheels are slipping so its reducing power. I am really unsure I will try just about anything right now to fix this thing.

But why would it only do this when the car warms up? It is strange for sure.

Also what is that TEMP warning light for on the dash that lights up too? I cannot find it any place

FIXED! Re: TEMP light on and TRAC OFF?

Well I changed the coolant temp sensor and the t stat... and it fixed my problem.. I must say that is a minor pain in the ass to change that sensor.

Wrench's are terrible?

I think i need to do this shortly.

Misfire when cold, nothing when warm, never reads higher than 177 with 180 thermo.

Glad it was solved though

yeah what is wierd is that the car still does not get up the the 195 degrees like the t-stat I put in is supposed to. But it got rid of the other problems... not I need to replace the trans! just ducky! hahaha anyway if you have a ratcheting wrench that would make the job a hundred times easier to take out.... putting it back in thought.... you need a left hand on the right hand if ya know what i'm saying hahaha not too bad just a pain in the ass really.

sure its bled properly?

What does the PCM say the temp is?

Replaced mine just now and my 177 max temp is back up to 181 where its supposed to be.

$30 and 20 mins. We'll see if it solves the misses at start tomorrow.

I used a 3/4" deep socket and a 1/2 ratchet. Worked just fine, didn't have to remove anything cept the wire to the sender.

yeah I need to flush the coolant i think but the car is running great minus the diff in the trans snapping and popping because my sister jacked it up while she was driving it this summer.

and how did you put a socket on it? the socket did not sit straight on it due to the plastic tab that the connector attaches to.

on the factory sensor it lined up with a corner. easy on.

on the replacement i could get it most of the way on, barely off alignment.
