Temp gauge

Where does yours sit when the engine is fully warmed? Mine appears to be at about the 170-175 range. I bought an OEM t-stat to correct the situation, but haven't put it in yet. A buddy of mine has an '02 GT and said he didn't see the gauge move much from there when he installed one in his (also OEM).

I assume the OEM is a 195 - no idea what is in there now. It's either too cold, stuck open or the sensor is bad.

oops, yeah it is a 195* i dunno where i got 210 from. how many degrees is it outside? My temp dosen't go much above 160 range, even though its really at 180* according to aeroforce and its around 35* out around here

Ambient is about 31, but it was cool this summer, the last time I drove it also. All our other vehicles run right up at near the 200 mark, as they should. I'll try to change out the t-stat over this coming weekend to see if that brings the temperature up. Is there a bleed procedure on these, too, like my '93 with the 3.1?

yeah, u have to bleed it, you let it warm up, then you loosen the nut on the t-stat housing, and let it run until it bleeds a steady flow of coolant.

the gauge starts at 160*. rethink where it is.

Not sure what you're saying. It starts at 160 and the only other number is 210, which gives me exactly 50 degrees from indicator number to indicator number. 210-160=50. Assuming it's equally divided on each of the marks between those numbers, that puts the needle at about the 170-175 mark when the engine is fully warm.

Perhaps your dash reads differently than mine?

Not on my 97!

But you can't trust the temp gauge on the dash. Mine usually rides around 170° on the gauge. But my scanner shows it 185-195°. So they are not really that accurate. If you really are interested, get a scanner or better temp gauge.

mine always ran at the first major notch, which read about 185-190* on my scanner. i had a 180* thermostat. the heat worked great.
