Temp Gauge stopped working???

GXP05er

I have noticed this happening a lot more lately. I just bought my GXP 3 months ago and absolutly love it. last month, the dic told me that the "a/c had been shutoff for engine protection"??? i had been riding it kinda hard so i took it ez and it didnt happen again...until today. today i got the same message upon every start-up and also noticed that the temp gauge would not work. what can be the problem???? thanks in advance everyone!

Well The main temp sensor may not be working. If this is the case the car could be not reading temps. Putting it into a protection mode, and If the computer isnt getting a signal its not gonna be able to forward that to your Temp gauge on the dash. This is the first i have herd of this issue. Did you get any warrenty with it. How many miles are on your car?

it stopped working yesterday... i bought the car thru a private seller so it does not have a warranty. it has 44000 miles on it. i was really hoping it was just the thermostat because i have had to deal with that situation with another car.

I'm new to this site, so be gentle. I can't figure out where/how to post a question. Anyway, my temp gauge on my 98" GTP stopped working; needle just stays at bottom of gauge, never rises. Coolant level good, A/C works fine so what's the problem? Thanks

I can understand being new to the site, but the correct place to post a question about your 1998 is certainly not in the 5.3L V8 (LS4) section.

Not trying to be a jackass, but I just don't get it. Did you even try?

even with your car having 44000 miles it might still have a warranty, mine is an 08 with 55k miles and it came with the GM 100k mile powertrain warranty....which I know dont cover your problem...but who knows it might could, I would call a dealership and ask them about your car and maybe give them your VIN # so they could look it up.

Well I highly doubt that he still has warantee on his car as his is an 05. That being said I do think he should call a dealer and give them the trouble codes and see what they may have to say about them.

mine has done the same thing about 2-3 times. my car has about 88,000 on it. i plan on changing the coolant this week and getting a thermostat. i have called the dealership near my old house they wont do anything unless i bring the car in for a few hours and they charge almost $100 an hour. i have talked to a bunch of people about the issue and no one knows why is doing it.

To VDV18; Sorry if I offended you for posting in the wrong forum! Yes I tried; I didn't deliberately do it. Wow, that smarts!

if you go to "the lounge" on here it is for the gtp's and things. its ok i just found the 5.3 section here the other day

ok i just took my car in yesterday got the rad flushed and they said i needed a temp sensor. they said that was what was wrong with it running hot. also they told me since the sensor was bad it could have been sending the computer the wrong temp or that it was not even sending the temp to the computer.
