TCS in off setting when car turns on, help?

Hey, I have a 1999 Pontiac GP GTP that had an ABS/TCS issue. The light for ABS was staying on, and the TCS would not turn on properly. Following advice from the forums, My buddy and I have done the below:

1. Changed our front hub assemblies. Did not fix issue.
2. Changed out rear hub assemblies. Did not fix issue.
3. Changed out ABS control module and solenoid block. Issue corrected.

Now that the ABS light is gone and the TCS is working again, every time I turn the car on, the TCS starts in the off setting. While not a super huge deal, I would like the TCS to be on by default when I start the car. Is this a user controlled setting, or is there some way I can set this up? Did we miss something in the repair process?

Thanks in advance for any advice or help!

It's a long shot, but it's possible that it was modded to be that way. That's how mine is. I installed a home made auto TCS off module.

Is there anyway to unmod it then? One day my daughter is going to get the car and I was hoping she would never have to apply that safety feature

The traction control is useless on these cars anyway. About all it is gonna do is get you more stuck in the snow.

You know, I had it deactivate my cruise control when I started to hydroplane when I hit a deep water puddle on the highway. I was impressed. I am hoping to keep her safe.

^ no offense here. But teaching your daughter how to drive in slippery and tricky situations will keep her safe. Much more safe then relying on electronic aides in cars......

Assuming it has been modded, if you pull the DIC you would be able to see something that didn't belong. If it were me, I'd leave it. Unless your daughter lives in a different part of the country. I can't think of any situation where TCS would be useful in southern AZ.

The dic is the same one as before I changed the hubs and the abs,tcs module under the hood. I can appreciate that people may disagree with my desire to keep it back to my stock settings, as they may not like or need it.

Can I please have help trying to troubleshoot returning my car to a condition where my tcs turns on when I start the car.

Return it to working like it should from the factory by all means.....still actually knowing how to handle adverse conditions is the best thing you can give your daughter if your worried about her driving.....I would agree there would be something by the dic that looks fairly obvious if someone modded that.

I couldn't agree more. So I went to pull the DIC, and I didn't realize I would have to pull the whole trim piece in front of the Dash/Center console. I guess I am used to cars with more sub-component instrument areas. (Fiero) I will try to pull it tomorrow to see if there is anything behind it. Thank you for the starting point and I will update as soon as I can get behind it. Thanks again, everyone.

Back on topic......

Here is the "GM Universal Auto TCS Off Module" being talked about:
http://www.easyperformance.com/prod...off-module-universal-wire-splice?cookietest=1

I can't find any instructions, but I seem to recall that it t'd into the wiring on the back of the DIC.

Assuming that the TCS was working normally before, there is still a problem. Bad part(s)? Bad wiring? Time to start testing everything.

I appreciate the visual on what to look for. That should give me an idea of what would be different.
