WB into EGR Write-up (Hptuners)

Now I know some of you out there already have hptuners and have really taken a liking to it much like me. But maybe you didn’t spend all the money when you were just starting out. Then after getting more series about tuning you got yourself a wideband o2 and realize you can only scan and log your wideband if you have the Pro version. O what’s that the pro version upgrade is $250 bucks and you have to send the unit to them to be upgraded what???? Not anymore. I have the solution for you. So the best way I found to do it is by piping the 0-5 volt signal coming out of my WB that would normally connect into the side of my pro version into my EGR sensor. You may be asking why. Well in most people’s case like me I have an EGR delete. And yes I know that not everyone has a EGR delete but if I’m not mistaken you should be able to do the same this as long as you unplug the EGR and pipe the power running from the WB into the connector for tuning and then unplug the power to the EGR and plug it in like normal when not tuning. But in my case I just leave it plugged in at all times. So here we go first you will have to locate the EGR connector.

So all you need to do is just run the 0-5 volt wire coming out of your WB into the wire marked in the picture. That’s it for the hard stuff now over to the software setup.
First you’re going to have to go into your parameter table and add the EGR position. This is what reads the WB voltage. Now you will need to add 2 custom PIDS 1st is going the read the AFR for instance 14.7 AFR, the 2nd will read AFR Error (difference between commanded and actual) which when setup in a histogram will give you the ability to have a spot on tune in just a couple of runs.
Now here is the first PID. (WB AFR)

Now you will need to copy this exactly like you see it. Now for the last part where it says 9.3 you will have to mess around with this number in order to get your WB gauge and HPtuners to jive evenly.

Like before you have to copy this exactly like the picture but this one you don’t need to tweak.
So here is how I have my gauges and graph setup up for longing my WB. This is a great setup and like a said before if you want to save $250 this is a great way to do it.

Very good write up! Yes you can do this with the power tuner. It has been done for years in the DHP world. Two of my friends and I had it prob like 4-5 years ago. but all that info is lost now that the DHP forum is inaccessible. like said plug the wideband output into the egr refrence and then scan egr in your scanner. you will need to modify the formula and may need to add or subtract to the formula to get the AF to match the wide band output. as i have seen a slight variation from what the WB is reading and the pcm logs thru the egr. but its easy math in the formula.

the formula i used was:
(2*value)+10 or +9.8 ect to get calibrated to true AF
value= the pid number

the idea is that the WB reads from 10:1 to 20:1. this is a 10 unit difference. the Widband output is 0-5 volts. You double the output so that you now have your 10 unit difference and then you need to add 10. depending on your sensor 2.5 volts may not be 14.7:1 so you need to adjust the number you are adding to get the correct AF value.
 
If you have the lc1 setup or something similar command a a certain voltage and see what it reads through your scanner to give you the voltage drop to plug into your formula.
 
I was able to get HPT to see the AFR but the damn histograms wont freaking work, the custom table goes to unsupported every time

Right click and open image in new tab. It will go to photobucket.
If the image comes up with the gauge again do the same thing to that. It should show the picture.

When you are back on our site the image will show in the thread if you are logged in.
Royal pain in the ass but doable.
