Tail Light Problems

Hey guys hoping someone can help me out. I had a turn signal/brake light out on my 97 grand prix gt the other day so I replaced the bulb and it still didn't work so I cleaned up the connector and its been working great since then but last night I got pulled over and told I had a tail light out.

So I started looking at it today and was thinking it was a different bulb and it probably just needed replaced but discovered that it was in fact the same bulb as the brake and turn signal. I tried cleaning the connector again and that did no good, I've checked the fuse for the tail light and it was good so I'm kinda lost at this point. I haven't had a chance to check anything with a test light yet as I don't have one but I'm planning on getting one tomorrow.

I have also noticed the tag light isn't working, dunno if that is related to the tail light problem or not but definitely need to get that fixed too. Anyway I'm hoping somebody can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

I would see if you can find a new tail light harness with connectors.

I know they make them for my gmc truck for these sort of problems, perhaps they have the same for these cars.

To me is sounds like a wiring issue within the harness or just before. Time to pull back any tape and see what you find.

I've been seeing something similar with my 06 GP. No other lights having any issue but the rear passenger for some time now. The filament is just fine, the wire contacts on the bulb are perfectly clean. I use electrical grease to prevent corrosion. It's got to the point I'd just say forget it, but got pulled over for it. I showed the cop it really works by giving the tail light a good knock with my fist, and it comes back on. At least I was saved a ticket. Not seeing any wear on the existing harness, but that seems to be all it could be. So I'm looking for a replacement wiring harness. I'd like to buy the entire harness with the three sockets. If that isn't available, butt connectors will have to do. Any one see a part out there?

I would avoid butt connectors, solder and heat shrink tubing would be much better, and have almost no chance of corrosion.
