Tach issue

ok so i recently bought a 01 GTP from a buddy of mine. Every once and a while the car misses or it sounds like it does on a cylinder and the tach stops working until i turn off the car and turn it back on. Does any one have any idea how to repair or diagnose this issue??? It is gettin really annoying having the tach sit at 0 when i am driving.

does it throw any codes when this happens? If not, crank position sensor is a good place to start looking........

i dont have any codes thrown, it does have 130k on it so its got some wear and tear on everything.. I have an extra motor laying around ill swap the sensors out and see what it does.. thnx

i havent got to it yet, its gotten worse so ill be doing it soon i just got the puller in. My car shuts off now instead of just a miss. Ill keep u posted

Sorry never updated ran into some financial problems but I did get it swapped out and its still doing the same thing. if its cold outside say below 45 degrees the tach works till the car warms up and this is even after i swapped the crankshaft position sensor. So no go, anyone have any ideas?

Damn, I scanned mine and it threw a P0336 code which is for the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Thats weird when you mention it being cold it does it but after it warms up its fine. Last year when it got around or below freezing my tranny would start out in 3rd gear until the car warmed up and it was turned off then back on. I never found out what it was because it warmed up and never did it all summer.

I was told that it could either be the Camshaft Position Sensor or the Ignition Control Module. Can someone give me a tutorial of where these two are located and replacement. I think the Camshaft sensor is actualy right next to the Crank sensor but I want to make sure.

The cam sensor is between the water pump and balancer on the front cover
and the ignition mod. is below the coils (coil packs r attached to it) cp/ignmod can go bad some times id check there first
gd luck finding out w y prob is

Im replacing the CRANKSHAFT POSTION SENSOR on Sunday so ill let you know

UPDATE: I replaced the Crankshaft Position Sensor and so far today I have had no issues, it was happening 2-3 times a day

I'm having the same issue here. Replacing the crank sensor tomorrow. Heard a lot of different stories about whether it fixes the problem or not. Good to hear it hear that switching the sensor helped someone.
