Tablet Scanning/Tuning

BrandonHall10

Solving problems
Got tired of hauling my (not so portable) laptop out to the car every time I needed to data log or flash a tune. I dropped $79.99 at the Microsoft store and picked up an HP stream 7.

Figured I'd give it a shot:

Still waiting on the USB to micro-USB adaptor.

Anyone else using a table for tuning?

is that windows 8? a friend of mine picked up a little computer with similar specs as that one and uses it for the same thing. it runs pretty slow, but its hard to beat something that works and holds a charge for a long time.

Yes, Windows 8.1.

I'll probably still do most of my editing on the laptop, but this should be super handy for scanning and flashing.

Im all over this. My wife is getting sick of me taking the computer with me all the time :-) I thought the small inexpensive windows tablets are like the Surface R/T version and you can not load software on them. Just Apps out of the windows store. How did you get HPT on there. I will buy one today if you advise. Thx

I invested in this a while back...however the micro port didn't have the capability to interface with the box and connect to the vehicle. From what I've read u need a tablet that has a regular USB port for it to work

I just went to Bestbuy and plugged my ssmsung micro usb to usb adapter into that small 7" tablet and it connected to my HPT cable and started downloading the driver files. I branded Windows 8.1 tablet and keyboard combo for 149 99 it has a quad core 1.3 processor and 2 gb of ram. Ill keep you all posted.

That's reassuring. I've read in multiple places that it does work, but it's always nice to hear it "first hand" from a member.

Sub'd interested in the results!
: )

making a a mount for a tablet will be a helluva lot easier than for laptop! Lol...

uploadfromtaptalk1430437310884.jpg Here is the pic I took while at Bestbuy it definatley started installing the drivers but the one question that remains will it go all the way thru the process and talk to the software as well. Im very optimistic.

It would be cool, my current laptop is kinda old and the battery doesnt seem to last more than 1 hour using HP Tuners. Just doing other stuff that doesnt require as much usage it can last nearly 2 hours.

A smaller unit that can just be used to scan stuff and last several hours would be sweet.

Windows 8.1 as well Brandon

Only thing going that ducks about tablets is unless it has more that. One port you can't charge it and use hptuners at the same time

Thats^^^^why I opted for the undranded windows tablet. Its 10" but tou have to get the bundle pack (they are on sale thru sat for $149 that comes with the keyboard and touchpad mouse because that is where the usb 2.0 port is. Plus it has 2gb of ram. I think the 8 in LG G pad is windows and has a nice processor and 2gb of ram but it pricier.

That is a "con" for sure. But honestly, it's not that much different that running a standard laptop, right? According to everything I've read, inverter charging while flashing/scanning is a cardinal sin. You gotta run on straight battery. As it is, I don't own a computer with a battery that will last more than 30 minutes. So it was either drop $40 on a new battery for the wife's computer, $80 on a new battery for mine, or $80 for a fresh new windows tablet. I chose new hardware.

From the little bit of playing around I've done, I think the biggest hurdle will be the tiny, tiny screen. Need to find a small bluetooth keyboard with a touchpad. For now, my little girly fingers are getting the job done.

USB adapter is scheduled for delivery May 5th. I should be able to confirm function shortly thereafter. In the meantime, I'm keeping busy shopping for automotive tablet mounts.

As far as scanning it works fine. I have not tried to edit and load a tune yet. I dont see why it would not. Ill let you all know later this eve after work. Also the one i got has a usb 2.0 port on it so im not using a micro usb to usb 2.0 adapter but like i said in my previous post it was downloading the MPVI cable drivers as soon as i plugged it in on the 7" tablet in Bestbuy that the OP got so im very optimistic his will work as well. Only drawback is even tho mine has a 10" screen the text is small. That 7" one is gonna be microscopic. But still worth it to log/scan on IMO uploadfromtaptalk1430491963401.jpg
