T Stat Help

I am wanting to replace my T Stat on my 00 GTP. I have been running a little hotter than normal recently and presume that is the issue. I have already had the coolant system flushed and refilled and replaced my Spectre Cone and it is still running a little hot.

Two Questions, whats the best T Stat for my car I live in Florida. Not best as in Branding perse, but 180 192...etc.

Other is how easy of a install is it?

Stock Minus Spectre Ram Air, Plugs, Wires

I ran mine with a 180 T-stat in FL the whole cars life. Reached 195 max, sitting in 110degree heat, in stop and go traffic.

Install is easy, remove 2 10mm bolts, swap out the t-stat and the t-stat gasket, and rebolt. Then make sure you properly flush the system, so that there is no air.

there is no reason to run a colder thermostat. it will net you nothing, but more wear on the motor.

now running at 240-260 (you sure you're reading the gauge correctly?) is much too hot.

Could be the t-stat. But could also be that you still have air in the system.

Can't hurt to change the t-stat and make sure you have all the air bled out afterwards.

As mentioned a few times here, stick with a 195° t-stat. No reason at all to go cooler on these cars unless you are heavily modded and hot lapping at the track. For daily driven cars, stick with a stock t-stat.

I'd replace the radiator cap when doing the flush fill maintenence also.
Throw a new 195 T stat and cap on. When you have the cap off that's the time to jack the front of the car up and let it bleed out the old school way. Once there are no air bubbles coming out cap it and then bleed out a little on the tstat valve and you're good to go.

okay sounds good!

There is also a smell coming from the engine. Like a hot smelling type of smell. Almost like burnt rubberish...but more like the car is overheating. I checked all my belts they are good.

Coolant level is good. She has been flushed and bled. Im running about 210-220 at idle. 180-190 on the e way. But when stopped the smell comes. No smoke from. The engine area. Looked under the ar no drips.

Maybe your LIM gasket is dying.
Maybe you're low on coolant.
Maybe you have a gnarly air bubble.
Maybe your fans aren't turning on (finicky temp sensor?)
Maybe you have a sticky pulley.
Maybe you have some oil leaking out the backside of the rear valve cover, near the firewall.
Maybe you have a wacky vacuum leak.

mine runs from anywhere between 170 and 180. odd considering my efans don't work
stock thermo??

If so, more like a buck 195 on the nose 90% of the time, the dash gauge may look like its alot lower, but its not, the first big line after 160 is 190-200, then its 210 at the next mark.
