Switching gauge cluster lights to LED???

Alright, before I continue, this thread is NOT ABOUT CHANGING THE COLOR OF MY GAUGE CLUSTER!!!

LOL, I like the red, that being said, i have the cluster out and see that their are 8 194 sized bulbs and 12 lil guys, I think they are 37's???

Anywho, does anyone have a good wide-angle LED bulb to replace these with? I really want to try and avoid "bright" areas and have a uniform red color.

Just get some 194 LED's, I got mine from ebay. Secondly, even if you wanted to change the colour you can't. The colour comes from a red film that is put on the cluster

You could possibly mix them! Blue LED's behind a red film might turn out purple lol or just a nasty mush color.

Couldn't you get a a gauge cluster that has clear film over it?

Yes, I know that the red film gives the color. I just simply want to change out the regular bulbs with LED's........white LED's.

I was mainly wondering if anyone had done it before and had gotten good results. Either way I'm going to try it and see how it works out.

Alright, doing some research seems like the boys over at ls1tech have been doing this for a while. The white bulbs make the red look pink, so I went with red bulbs, here is what I ordered:

8 - 194 sized bulbs

12 - 74 sized bulbs.

I'll keep you posted!

I was just thinking about this the other day... about white LED's turning the gauge pink lol

Good thing you caught it before you did anything!

the color looks kinda white, but its a nice deep blue.

blue and red LEDs in the cluster and blue LEDs everywhere else

it wasnt too bad. the window buttons and lock buttons and the steering wheel lights are 3 and 5 mm LEDs from ebay. dirt cheap. the rest are LED strips. those are kinda pricey. overall maybe $75. then the effort of doing it and actually making it look good. i know ppl that have just thrown them in and the light is all spotty and looks like ****. finding a way to make the light even is the hard part. its all trial and error.

I didn't know you could change the color of the DIC. Although I don't like it too much, I'd personally keep the DIC red. As I said, personal opinion.

the DIC in the pics was my 1st try. ive since fixed it and made it look a lot nicer. the pic is blurry but the color is a lot nicer

It's not so much that it's blue, it's the area. Blue is naturally a much brighter and more eye-catching color than red. I drove a Mitsi Gallant Ralliart at night, cluster lights are blue... oh was it annoying. It's just too big to be blue for me is all.

it would be real sweet if you could change the color to blacklight... i would rock that but i dont think they make those in that bulb

I'm pretty sure you could find a UV bulb... though otherwise, I hope the drive likes purple since that's basically what UV looks like.
