switched accessory tap

Hi all i am hooking up a after market head unit in my 2004 grand prix with monsoon system.

i don't care if i lose RAP
i don't care much for the chime
i don't have onstar
i also know about the date will be lost on the DIC also

i will disconnect the monsoon system and run new speaker wire, constant 12+/ground and accessory wire.

The question is can/could i use a mini fuse tap on the power sun roof fuse in the fuse panel to get the switched 12+ accessory power that the radio needs to cut on and off.(the fuse is rated @ 20 amps)if you want to know.:th_scratchhead:

o and yes i will replace the factory speakers

Don't take my word for it cause I'm just a n00b but I believe I heard other people saying that they did this. My guess is you would be fine.

My cousin used the sunroof fuse to work for his aftermarket unit, even though it was on an Impala, same concept, I don't see why you couldn't.

Yes, you can do that.

When you decide to replace your factory monsoon system, I'll buy the speakers from you.

ok now what is the safest way to tap.thanks for all your help.

1.buss-mans add a fuse
2.splice the wire itself(solider and shrink)
3.t tap (with inline fuse)
4.the little clip over the fuse method

Add-a-fuse is the simplest for sure... no messing with the factory wiring and all you need to do is run the wire to the fuse box. That's what I'd do.

i was just reading that the add-a-fuse things are only rated 10amps.The only switched source in the 04 grand prix fuse panel that i can recall is the sunroof fuse and that is rated 25amps.So now i don't want to use that as a fuse tape i may just use the ignition wire.I would have done this all ready but man its getting cold oust side and i dont have enough room in my room car garage.

you could do something like this and just run an inline fuse to the radio
