Swaybar Sizes

Careful on the montes...myself and fellow forum member thought same thing and we pulled one off then measured it and ur was only 30mm not 34. But would still work on a Gp. Same shape as a gmpp bar. I actually have it if u want it
 


I might take you up on that, thanks! It all depends on what the JY has tomorrow. I guess I'll take my caliper with me and measure them to be sure. My stock ones are somewhat okay, but I want a cheap, easy upgrade.
 
Yea I ended up buying gmpp bar new but after I got it realized the 30mm one we got was exclactly same bends and would of worked. Just would of needed smaller bushings
 
I gotcha, I'm debating on going Dorman for the front, I'm mainly hunting for the rear. I wouldn't pass up a GMPP front if I found it, but I don't mind saving that $ for a Dorman either. Where exactly are you supposed to measure these things? I know you use a caliper, but measure at the bushings?
 
Awesome, thanks. Now I need to find out what other junkyard upgrades I can look for while I'm there. I already have the 12 inch brake upgrade, I'm thinking the 01+ cupholders, but I don't know of anything else...
 


Already have a front STB, rear one is gonna happen after I fix the rust...it's not that bad (barely showing when I pull the carpet back) but I just don't wanna **** with it right now. I'll keep an eye out for a GXP for ya, but I've never seen one there. Oh yea, I also have 04 needles.

Just got back, the 00-05 monte carlo's do NOT have GMPP rear, but I think they have GMPP front. Best part is I found a Dorman front, woohoo!
 
90-99 z34 front will fit gen 2s 34mm hollow you just have to drill holes in the lcas for the endlink bushing brackets
 
I have a question about sway bars. I am not really into performance, this was just a car that my daughter thought would be nice. A few years ago I replace the front sway bar with a Dorman. I have the subframe out of the car right now because I finally got to pulling the bad transmission. It is supposedly the correct Dorman part with the numbers 927-100 on the tag. The tag says driver's side on it as well, so I assume I have it installed correctly. Unfortunately after I installed it, I had the wheels off with the car an stands and the control arms were at the max of the suspension down travel. At this point the tierods hit the swaybar. I thought it was odd that the swaybar arced slightly upward, toward the tierods, on the ends. The clearance looked like it would be good during normal travel so I had it aligned and let her drive it. Shortly after I had a front tire wear out on the side that I saw the contact. Had the guys that did the alignment take a look at it again and sure enough the toe in was off, we took a look at the tierod and sure enough it was bent. If I remember correctly I did have the car up on stands again so the actual contact that caused the bend may have been this and not actually a driving issue.

I was just wondering if anyone else has ever seen this contact between a replacement front Dorman swaybar and the tierods? It didn't do this with the stock bar (or at least I never saw it before the bar broke). I thought about flipping the bar, that would have it slightly arc downward under the tier rods, maybe the part number sicker got placed on the wrong side? Some of the pictures in this thread look like the bar is installed the same way mine is though, but it is hard to see for sure in the pits. The other thing about the bar that is identifiable is the cross section from side to side. The way I have it installed it has a bend in the middle that goes upward, I can't tell for sure on the subframe if it would even fit if I turn it around. But if I did flip it the center bend would go downward. Does it sound like the bar is installed correctly, with the center bend going up and the ends slightly arcing upward?
 


this is how close my dorman bar is to the tire rod. no issues to date, other then the dorman bushing failing. those are new moogs installed.

Thanks Scottydoggs, I can't tell from the pict, but it doesn't sound like yours is actually hitting? Like I say mine actually had contact. Does yours arc upward out there under the tierods?
 
this is not my pic, but you can see how the ends turn a bit.

if you need new bar bushings moog sells 3 sizes, the middle size fits the 33 mm dorman bar.

Ahhh, 2d pictures of 3d bends. I think I see what I need there. Left side is drivers side in this pict, with the bushings bolted down to the top of the subframe. The center bend in this bar is definitely up or it would not sit well on the floor in the pict and the ends look like they turn slightly upward. So it looks like I have the bar in the correct way. I just wonder why I have such solid contact between the bar and the tierod?

I told the guys that did the alignment to turn the bend in the tierod upward as well to give the most clearance above the swaybar, but it just still seems wrong.

Just acquired a 2005 GT, VIN: 2G2WS542651XXXXXX. Equiped with 20mm front stabilizer bar and it corners like an elephant. UGH

Looking to upgrade to a heavy stabilizer bar.

Have acquired control arms with stabilizer bar mounts, ACDelco 45D3358 and its partner 59.

What stabilizer bar should work? One source recommends a cross to a Dorman 927100.

Please advise with proven experience.

The troubling thing is that Dorman does NOT recommend it for the 2005. They even confirmed via email, but could not explain why.

Hoping for a 2005 owner who has done this updgrade.
 
thats because your car came with a different bar where its end links hook up to the strut.

if you change your lca's like you have listed, you can use the dorman bar as its end links use the mount in the lca's. its the 97-03 set up, 06-08 got it too. 04 and 05 seem to have the odd ball set up.

if you get a dorman bar, toss the bushings in the trash get some moog bushings they run like 11 bucks for the pair. the dorman end links seem to last so far.
 
How about frame material? The 2005 l am working on is made with aluminum structure where the stabilizer bar and control arms mount. Would be a disaster if the heavy bar bent that structure. Are the non- 2004-5 vehicles made with aluminum?
