Swapping out engines

About a week and half ago, someone ran a red light and totalled my '99 GTP. I have a '98 GT with about 140,000 miles that I was thinking about transplanting the GTP engine and trans into. Would it need the computer or wiring harness switched over as well? The GTP has no leaks and about 108,000 miles. The '98 leaks a little oil, but nothing major. I just don't know if it would be worth it money wise to do the swap. I would have to pay someone to do the work.

You'd need the harness and GTP ECU for sure. Think one of the axles is a different length on the GTP as well, could be wrong. On whether or not its a good idea to swap, well, that's up to you. If you like the S'C then I say swap. If the GT is doing well right now then I'd just leave it be. Or you could just pull the engine/trans from the GTP whole and save it for a later date if the GT develops an issue.

disconnect the hoses and wiring from the body on both cars. Lift both in the air. Drop both cradles (engine, trans, axles, etc) swap. Bolt back in, part other car out. Winning.

Wolf look at detroit c list or grand rapids i just looked yesterday and saw what looked to be a nice gtp body no motor.

Easy swap. Move the motor, trans and passenger axle over. Keep your existing wiring harness. Add the boost control (or run to air) and change the connector for your map sensor (or buy an L32 one, same connector as the L36). Use the 99 GTP pcm to run the car while you have someone program you a 98 GTP PCM with your VIN in case the car ever needs to be emission tested or scanned by motor vehicle dept.

I was wondering the same thing about my 04gt , I got the money and was thinking of doing a complete swap to supercharged. , but was has to be changed to make it happen and what about the gages???? My car has 285000 and ready for some major work.

Billboost.... will everything plug in with my wiring harness?? The boost gage too??? And the tranny has to be swapped also right??

You'll have to add a couple of wires for stuff like the second map sensor and boost control. Overall though..it's cake. You don't "have" to swap the trans. You can program for the gearing as it would be different. You'll need a programming either way you slice it.
