SW-controls to aftermarket head unit?

Right now I have a completely stock sound system in my GTP - and am a little sick of only being able to burn 20 tracks to a CD...

I want to know if I get an aftermarket head unit (JVC KD-G830 cd/usb player) if there is a way that I can hook up my steering wheel controls to functionally control the unit.

I'm guessing its an extra wire harness.... but any details/info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

also, an alternative to the SWI-X is the SWI-JACK that should have a hardwired lead for your head unit, you just need to see if the head unit you have has a wired remote input.

So what exactly is the difference between these two
 
the other one plugs into your radio and doesn't need the ir transmitter, the x has a transmitter (if my wife would go to her sisters and get my camera I'd take a pic)
 
I just tried to install mine and I cannot figure it out for the life of me. I followed the directions and got it blink and everything like it said it would but wouldnt do it up right. Any suggestions

the SWI-JACK may not have showed up initialy in your browsing cuz

it's not listed on it's own, cuz it works for Jvc, Alpine, Clarion and Kenwood (and blaupunkt)

the advantage that this one can have over the SWI-X is that sometimes the SWI-X's remote transmitter eye can sometimes get blinded by the sun, making it not responsive
 
has anyone eles installed this in a 2001 GTP it is kind of hard to figure out I think why dont they just make a direct plug for the Factory wireing. Is there any other types of interfaces

where mine is I never have an issue (and have a sunroof)
