Surging when shifting from second gear

I've got an rpm surge when my car shifts from second gear (35mph or so). It shifts fine on the other gears and while boosting. Could it be my TC locking? I also just changed spark plugs and I read on a different forum that a guy had a misfire and he took off the plug wire heat shields and somehow that fixed his misfire. I was thinking about doing the same. Is this safe, and do they just slide off? Also when going to remove my O2 sensor for the back plug, I had to spray PB to break the sensor loose so I'm wondering if some of that got in between the wire and plug and caused this? Any help would be appreciated like always.

the plug wires should always be changed with the plugs. those heat shields, toss them in the trash.

and what plugs did you put in?

was this problem there before the plug change?

your the first one ive ever heard of that took out the o2 to get the spark plug out. thats a new one by me. theres no need for that.

I had to take out the o2 because I'm dumb and forgot I could rock the engine forward. I put it autolite 605's gapped to about 0.52. The problem started after the plug change.

my bet would be on a plug wire being toast/pulled apart.

get some local auto parts store brand plug wires. they work just fine.

switch the plug wire thats got the mis with the wire next to it. if the mis moves its the wire.
