supercharger??

Im driving around today, (not balls to the wall, but i dont drive like an old lady ;]) i went to eat, and when i got back into my car and started to drive off i noticed i didnt have very much power, and when my RPMS got over 3800 it made this clicking/plasticy, (ticktickticktick) sound.. so i backed off, and it shifted into a higher gear. when i ease on the gas it lags but the boost gauge is boosting ALOT and it kinda sounds like its having problems releasing pressure? im not too much of a macanic but, this sounds like a serious problem and I CANNOT aforde to take it to someone.. so i was gonna try to look a few things over myself.. ANY IDEAS? thanks for any help you guys could give,

the car is a 97 GTP with 76xxx

Like a constant tick...is it a rod knock? Pull the plugs and check for a bent one? You have any mods on it?

no mods its all stock, it is a fast constant tick only when the RPMS are over 3800 then i back off on the pedal, im going to crack into it tomorrow. i hope its nothing super serious

sure its a 'tick'? if youre seeing high boost under load id say there is a restriction in the system like a clogged cat.

maybe its a click and not a tick? haha =p it doesnt do it when the cars stoped, if its in Park or N the car just red lines at 4000.. i didn't see any obvious problems today... RAWR

I agree. I just had this problem several weeks ago. New cat fixed it for me. Word to the wise though, don't get the $800 repair at the stealership. Get the stainless steel Magnaflow cat from ZZP for $60 and have an exhaust shop install it for $100. You will have much more cash in your pocket than I do.

^^ totally agree, $$$ is on a fubarred cat. either strait pipe it or get the magna flow. remember that clogged cat is worth $75 minimum to a recycling yard. don't let the garage have it, there gonna sell it anyway.

THANKS ALOT GUYS! i have a friend coming over tomorrow or sunday with a scan tool, cause the service engine light DID come on.. so maybe that will tell us the problem? im hoping its just a exhaust or fuel problem..well see.. maybe its time for an upgrade :th_thumbsup-wink:

My money is on a P0300 misfire code if it's the cat.

Not any more you could get like $60 top for it now. I got $120 for mine two years ago:th_thumbsup-wink:

ok guys im back and i just can a scan on my car with my friends CEN-TECH OBDII/EOBD.
I got two codes found..
P0303 Cylinder 3 misfire
p0336 Crankshaft position censor A circuit range / performance
ARRRGGG im pretty sure that sounds super serious..
if i wanted to spend 3gs on a project i dont think it woulda been a GTP..
but i gotta get this fixed..
found out today that i have a serious coolant leak in my jeep too and i need a new
radiator..
AHHH!! the downsides of owning an automobile!
HELP GUYS HELP!!!

that stuff isnt that big of a deal so long as the misfire is something stupid like a plug wire. if you do your own work then it shouldnt cost you much more than a few hundred bucks.

do plugs and wires to start with and see what happens from there they should only be 40-50 bucks for the good stuff

check the wiring that goes into the ignition control module. that harness goes to the cam and crank sensors. if somethings chewed up itll throw the crank code and possible cause a misfire at the ICM. just a thought...
