Do you have a boost gauge?

My guess is that you have an issue with your BBV not closing, err... opening, I forget which way is which with those things.
 


Does the DIC bars fill up? You can test the valve by holding the BBV lever all the way down while someone gives it throttle and watches the boost on the DIC. If it fills up when you hold it down but doesn't fill up when you're not touching it, replace the BBV. Here is the BBV lever you need to hold down.

Those "bars" are pretty much all throttle position. If you swapped in an N/A engine and went WOT they'd still all light up.

not sure about this. when i had a small vacuum leak none of the bars would light. when i found then leak i got most of the bars to light wot

That's incorrect. If that were the case, people would never run across the "half boost" problem. It's usually the BBV, solenoid or a vac leak.
 


Okay I know this is going to sound stupid but did you put the belt back on? Or the correct belt? A 3.4 pulley and the stock pulley use different sized belts.
 
Ya I bought a new stock belt for it.. I just did the oil today and it got even quiter lol.. Ii just want to make sure nothing is wrong
 
sorry for bringing this up again but it still isn't as loud.... i had a 99 that was completely stock and the one i have now(and 01) is a lot quiter and it has a homemade intake on it.. any ideas? from what ik the bbv is still good
 


no filter guy!!! ask a aircraft carrier pilot what happens when dust dirt or debris goes into a jet...as a preventative measure the whole crew goes over the entire deck looking for things that would render an aircraft useless, so to run a boosted engine whit no filter is far from wise
 
hey gtp whine, dude are you certain you power steering isn't a little low. mine whined when i first got it then i put the proper level of fluid

What? The? What did I just read? If the Power Steering was low, the pump would whine, but that would be all the time or while turning. It would have nothing to do with the boost. Did you even read his comments about this?

OP check for a vacuum leak. Take some B12 Chemtool, or Starting Fluid spray, or something similar and spray it around the connection points on the vacuum lines. Do this while the engine is running, but go point to point slowly. If when you spray a connection point the RPMS go up (engine surges up like someone gave it gas from the spray fumes in the lines) you have a leak there.

If you can't find any leaks, the BBV is working correctly, you don't have a CEL on, a new clean air filter is installed, I have no idea where to go next. This is a puzzler.

Spots circled in red are silencer ports. They allow air to flow thru them to keep the whine down for the Regular Joe's driving the cars daily. If they get plugged off, filled in, etc... it gets much louder, but you would have to carve out alot more to get quieter, and that would probably reduce flow and boost as well. Unlikely unless the previous owner was a wack-job. People usually want to fill them so you can get as much noise from it as possible.

right.. does anyone have another method of testing the bbv?? im not sure from what everyone else is saying that the other method is correct or what not because of the legos... maybe im just testing the bbv wrong...
