Supercharger Service

Looked for info on this before I posted but didn't see it so

Bought a 07 GP GT last Friday and told the dealer I wanted the SC serviced as part of the deal. Well my wife thought it would be cool to go close the deal with out me and they told her that once it has 117K on it, it might not be a good idea to change the SC oil (kind of like the transmission oil) I called BS on that and called the sales guy. He agreed to give me the oil free and Ill just change it myself. So is there any truth that logic about the oil?

Also have a question about vacuum lines. The diagram looking canister on front of the engine that is feed off the Y on top of the SC has an open port. It looks as if it had a foam filter over it at one time but is now long gone. I just want to make sure that its supposed to be open to atmosphere and not blocked off.

Thanks

No that is absolutely false. You have to change the fluid when you change the coupler rebuild the snout or anything that you have to crack it open and after that the SC has usually well over 100K and we ran them with more than 200K. They virtually last forever as long as something doesn't destroy them.

09? There is no such thing as an 09 Grand Prix, let along a supercharged 3.8 in 09 as 07 was the last year for that.

And yeah, total BS. I changed my fluid at 175k and have no idea if it was ever changed before that. I bought the car at 123k.

The middle nipple on top is suppose to capped off and the other line that leads to a solenoid is suppose to have a "open" end on the other side, it will vent from there.

Right the Y on top is plugged in the center. Then one runs to the booster and the other to the diaphragm looking canister. The canister is what has the open port so it sounds correct.

Thanks

Yeah, the one circled in blue.

For the foam? Left the dealer a little bit ago. They are ordering the foam filter for me as well as the vacume hoses free of charge once I just bought it.

I also talked them into a new dipstick because the mine had broken where the O ring goes. I pulled it off before it fell in the oil pan.

I did the same (cash) I went back and forth with them for over a month. 7300, title, taxes, and licences. Seems ok for 07 GT with 117000. Maybe a little high because it was a lot

I made it clear that I was doing an out the door price and just kept knocking it down with everything I found wrong. Then agreeing to a price then finding more wrong. It had a leaking rack and he told me it was a $1600 repair, I used that as my price off of that and chipped away with easy fixes like plugs and wires causing misfire and the blower motor was failing. I'm sure they made their money but it has turned out to be worth it to me in the end. It was going to the auction if I hadn't bought it.
