Sunroof pops loud when opening

Hello all, new here and thanks in advance for any helpful information. I have a 2002 Grand Prix in excellent shape. It has 95000 miles and runs like new. Very well maintained. The sun roof was sounding a little slow when opening. I did a complete cleaning and lubing of the tracks. This is the 3rd time this has been done since new. It makes a more than normal popping sound when first opening from completely closed. The seal on the glass is in great shape and always lubricated. Just wondering what is causing the loud popping sound. Thanks

Your car sucks, and thusly creates a vacuum. The pop is the vacuum seal being broke. JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!! However, it almost sounds like the sunroof is sticking??

My sunroof struggles because the seal that goes around the window is so sticky. It sometimes makes a pop noise, but not at all like gears grinding or something skipping.

have you tried greasing the tracks? On my GTP i had this issue. It got to the point where i would have to give it a push to pop open, so i adjusted the glass a bit and it stopped. Just look for the screws that attach the panel. Put it all the way close loosen em and just tap it up a bit.

The tracks that it slides back on are very well greased, and has no problem sliding back once open. It is on the rear side of the window that the seal catches on the roof, I usually have to help push it up. I didn't know there was an adjustment, but that would probably fix the problem. Thanks, I'll try that tomorrow.

Well I took a look at those screws, and they don't allow much movement forwards and backwards. I moved it all the way forwards and it still wouldn't open on its own. I also adjusted it up slightly which helped somewhat by making it easier for me to help it up, but still won't go on its own. I think I either need a new seal or need to find a lubricant that doesn't get sticky after a few days.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and comments. The tracks are clean and not worn out. I cleaned and used silacone on the seal. Waxed the area where the seal contacts the roof metal. All is good and ready for the summer. Thanks again. Nice car, trying for 10 more years out of it.
