ok so ever since i got my 99 gtp i have had this problem.... when i hit the switch to crack the sunroof open it barely goes up at all. Than when i hit it again it goes up all the eay and slides back only about half way and stops and wont go any further. Even if i hit the switch more it wont go back any farther. Its pissing me off and i want it fixed by spring time. Can someone please help me Thank you very much

i was gona say the track but if theres no sound the motors probably going bad. mine does the same crap. but when i can keep hitting it and it will open eventually

I have a similar problem, but when I push the button, it pops up then makes a loud, grinding noise and stops. I'm afraid to push it in case it gets stuck OPEN. That wouldn't be good. My mechanic told me to take it to a body shop, so I did and they didn't know what to tell me. Any suggestions? I'm going to sell it in a month or so and want to get that taken care of, since I'm in Florida

Idk why they sent you to a body shop if its never been hit then theres no damage to casue it to twist. does the mtr still make noise when it stops? it may be the tracks and the whole sunroof frame needs replace:th_thumb-down: bogus

It's never been hit. The motor only makes the noise when I stop pushing the button. As you know, the button is pushed and the sunroof opens up; the motor stops as soon as the sunroof stops. When I push it to put it back down, it makes the same noise and stops when it stops.

thats what mine does. I think theres a short somewhere bw the motor and switch idk though. i just have to hit mine again until its open. have you tried putting graphite in the tracks?

No I haven't tried anything. I'm afraid if I do anything, it'll get stuck or break entirely, so until taxes get here, I probably won't try anything, but the graphite is a good idea. I have some of that. The tracks are what is opens in, right?

yea the frame of it where the sliding parts are. if its intermittent and not binding then its in the wiring or motor/module <---which come as one piece

Bryant, I'm not sure about the 97-03's but mine does the same thing and I was told by the parts guy at the local pontiac dealer that it is most likely the position sensor.

it shouldbe by the module

the sunroof control module monitors the limit switches and based on the inputs determines the position of the sunroof glass. as a limit switch closes, the 5 volt reference will be shorted to the sunroof limit switch low reference circuit, pulling down the 5 volts refrence to 0.

the sunroof control module understands the position of the sunroof glass based on the different input combinations through the sunroof limit switch soft stop signal and sunroof limit switch open vent signal circuits

pull down the headliner you should see the module and sops

1. remove headliner
2. remove tie strap from the wiring harness
3. disconnect the screws from the sunroof actuator
4. disconnect the electircal connector from the wiring harness
5. pull straight down to disengage the drive gear from the sunroof opening positioning switch
6. Remove the sunroof actuator from the sunroof module

install

1. position sunroof actuator to the module
2. connect electrical wiring harness
3. push the sunrooof actuator straight in the engage its drive gear into the sops
4. install the sunroof actuator screws to the sunroof actuator
5. install the tie strap to the wiring harness
6. make sure it works before reinstalling the headliner as it is a pain in the *** trust me

Dude, really try and reset the comp. My windshield wippers got stuck in the up position and after I reset the comp, it never happened after that.

Ok ya'll, I've done the following to my sunroof:
After lubing it up with graphite,
My son stood on the pass. side and watched it open. When it got hung up, I pushed the button again and we watched what it was doing. On the right side, it's getting hung up. When we both pulled on it to guide it back, while I was pushing the button, we did get it open most of the way YAYYYY.
When we tried to close it the right side got stuck again, so we had to push on each side while pushing the button and eventually it closed. We tried it again and had the same problem, but it still grinds, and it's kind of intimidating ya know.

It does not appear to be bent. Daddy suggested some WD40 then some grease (the right side has less thick grease than the left). Anymore suggestions?
Oh, and how hard is it to remove the headliner? My car is 11 years old and I don't want it to disintegrate when I take it down.

Thanks for all ur help
