Suggestions/information for new GT owner with Monsoon

Well it is a DIY sub but I didn't design it. The former owner of diymobileaudio.com(before it got raped with ca.com types and commercialism) came up with the design and was interested in seeing how well production runs vs. sales would accommodate his lust for speaker design.

DIYMA 12" Sub CLEARANCE ... until supplies last - DIYMA.com

Supposedly this company built the speaker....

Huey Tung Electronic Co., Ltd. - HiFi Speaker,Subwoofer,PA Plastic BOx,Tweeter,PA Speaker,Professional Audio Speaker,Car Speaker,?Ceiling Speaker,In-Wall Speaker,Public address system,Components,Midrange,Multimedia Speaker;TV Speaker,??????,?????,???

Which one doesn't look like the others? ;) I'm curious if they borrowed any cues from npdang's design.

EDIT: I clicked on the HT1207 but they don't appear to make it anymore since it lists a bunch of other subs instead. I have a R12 with a cone that imploded due to cold stress if you'd like a shot at DIY. A woofer cooker song came on as I warmed up my car below 0. The speakers weren't warm at all and the aluminum cone tore.

Here's another link...

DIYMA R12 Subwoofer... A history lesson. - DIYMA.com

Beautiful HT box made with this.

haha....I did look at the build of it. The dust cap is where the coil connects. The cone and dust cap ripped apart at the seem where they meet. Cold conditions = no good for these subs.

EDIT: The car was started and the volume dial was at 35 with the woofer cooker song. It was 0 outside/inside my trunk. *forehead slap*

I'll have to definitely keep that in mind during the NH winters. Did not really have to worry about this when I lived in Texas. Very nice looking sub. It seems as though you almost have to rely on small companies or DIY group buys to get a quality piece of equipment any more. I have had good experiences with Image Dynamics, Adire Audio, and Elemental Designs. Unfortunately, I just do not have time for DIY so I will have to rely on someone else. Any suggestions?
