Subway's GT: Time to close my legs, it smells everywhere

Re: Meatball Sub with Pickles

They don't want to pop off that first time, you're right. Just use the wedge to make room for a clip puller with some reach.

Theres not enough contact surface area for tape to work well. The answer for me was getting clips at a local parts store that sells paint and body stuff too. Or at most local body shop supply places. They sell enough to have clips made this century lol. You just need good clips. On 97-03s a couple of the usually found style aftermarket clips need to be trimmed a bit. The OEM clips are only half or 3/4" long, and the replacements are more like 3/4 - 1" and can rub the glass. The top row of clips is important on those because the trim panel's top edge is not hooked over the door shell and relies on perfect new clips. Consider them single use, I do but I re-use some on my junk.

The double sided tape you have might come in handy for the weather liners behind the door trim panels. Those are to be sealed to the door shell to prevent water leaks but they also keep a bunch of air from getting in behind the door panel. The butyl rubber used to hold them in place is usually a mess by now, sticks only where its not wanted.

I tried for half an hour to find a pic of my tool that I know will work on the tough ones. The brand is worn off and its at work anyway. But its a sturdy low profile long reach clip puller with ends like the ones pictured. Thats the style you need because the clips are so far in from the edge.

Re: Meatball Sub with Pickles

Thanks for the info Matt! While the door panel itself is secure on the fern passenger door, the plastic trim piece is falling off so I'll probably pull it off and hot glue it back on. Same with all the trims pieces.

I'm still not too sure what to do about the clips.

Re: Meatball Sub with Pickles

Did you ever get your brakes blead?

Nope, I still have to go out and make the bleeder thing and buy brake fluid. My friend and I planned on doing it at his house, but he's pretty busy with personal projects of his own so it might be in the fall. But like I said before, no rush.

Re: Meatball Sub with Pickles

So I attempted to bleed my brakes and was cut short, just like every other project I do. Bleeder screw would not budge what so ever. PB Blasted it and still nothing. Tried using a wrench and a socket, still nothing. The screw was starting to strip on the head so I just put everything back together. All I did was suck out as much as I could from the master cylinder and added new stuff.

Re: Meatball Sub with Pickles

Shout out to HighOctaneRacing and turbomike231 for the write-up for the fuel filter upgrade. Everything went well, just needed to tighten up the fitting until it stopped leaking, but it is all leak free now.

The old filter:

The threaded end was the rusty part that caused this upgrade.

Thanks again to everyone who helped!

Re: Meatball Sub with Pickles

You didn't upgrade anything. You merely replaced the metal line and added plastic. Personally, I'd put a piece of rubber hose over that plastic line.

We gotta talk if you couldn't get that off. That's not rusty for a GP line.

On the brakes, you should be loosening the bleeder screw with a 6 point 10mm socket or 6 point box end wrench.

Re: Meatball Sub with Pickles

How is that not rusty? The whole thing is covered in rust. Plus I was starting to strip the nut on the threaded coupler.

Re: Meatball Sub with Pickles

And all I have is 12 point wrenches. The 10mm socket I used didn't help. I just say screw it.

Re: Meatball Sub with Pickles

There is a smidge of rust on that. It's mostly good though. Search around, there's guys who looked at their lines and it started dripping.

Re: Meatball Sub with Pickles

I tried loosening the nut, but couldn't do it. This new filter will take 2 minutes to swap out.

Re: Meatball Sub with Pickles

if you read any other filter swap threads, you would have seen that you vice grip the line nut, then turn the filter, not the nut. that would have come off.

Re: Meatball Sub with Pickles

It's done and that's all that matters now. But I still need to zip tie the new filter. It is just dangling there.

Re: Meatball Sub with Pickles

Yeah..dangling filter on plastic lines that are held on by a compression fitting is a great way to cause a fire.

Lol, the first time I srarted the car, I didn't tighten the fitting enough so when I started the car, gas was pouring out from the fitting. Then Scotty told me to tighten it up and low and behold, she's leak free. But I will probably wait until after school to zip tie it. But what a difference does the new filter make!
