Currently I own one Kicker L7 10", but i'm debating between selling that and picking up a couple of JL W0's 10", are the cheaper JLs going to sound better than my L7? going for SQ not so much SPL, any thoughts?
Personalty I think JL has the best sound quality $ for $. You buy lower end speakers you get lower end/outdated equipment. I have 2 L7 12's sound great alot of how subs sounds not only has to do with what kind of sub but also what size/kind of enclosure you use. I have my box tuned for sq not spl and I think it sounds good considering. Plus ported boxes sound like **** b/c of the "lag" you hear from the air going in and out of ports. I dont think the JL's would sound worse. I just dont think they would hit as hard as the L7 got to remember the square design of the L7/L5 means a 10" sub moves as much air as a 12" sub. Id like to trade both of my L7's for a W7 but that ant gunna happen anytime soon lol
ported boxes don't sound like ****. It depends in how their made and to what specs. If you hear port noise you need more port area.
lol you can only go so big with ports you have to take into account how big of a box your sub can handle and yes you hear airflow ask any installer. Its air flow in and out of the port which makes the sound "lag" and unless your going for spl u need a sealed box period. I know I have a ported box for my L7'S built to kicker specs for SPL and I have a box I built myself to kicker specs for SQ and my homemade box sounds better then the pro built ported. If u don't think ported boxes sound like **** for SQ then you need to turn your subs down and your hearing aids up.

I think he is referring to the higher group delay that is inherent to all ported boxes. Poor transient response vs. a sealed design. Not to say that all ported designs sound bad. If you listen to mostly rap you'd probably never notice the delay.ported boxes don't sound like ****. It depends in how their made and to what specs. If you hear port noise you need more port area.
