Sub/Amp Package

DreadMcLaren

I Give Zero Fvcks
Alright I need an opinion on this Sub/Amp package as I'm kind of new to this stuff.

Kenwood P-W1200 Package with Two 12" 8-Ohm Subwoofers and One 350 Watt Amplifier

I know it's not in a box and the Amp doesn't have much power, but for this price, is it worth the money or not?

I don't need something that rattles the windows out of my car, but something that will sound decent and not going to break the bank.

By the way, I have a Kenwood DDX-514 HU in my car already.

Thanks for your input.

sorry to say this, but OMG NO!!! its a really cheap package and its okay for what you get. That amp is incredibly weak as well as the subs. Even in the best of box i could get for my friend who bought that set, his subs couldn't even come close to my 1 RE audio REx 10 inch sub and the 80 dollar boss amp i was running it on and as a set that one sub and amp are cheaper than the kenwood stuff. Kenwoods amps are overrated by a lot. There 1000 watt amplifier only puts out around 300 watts rms. And there subs have some of the smallest magnets Ive seen. I love kenwood for thier stereos, and i even sell this sub package at best buy, but if you want quality bass this isn't a way to get it.

Last time i checked the kenwood package was 150$

Buy one sub and a quality ported box
Heres the sub, i actually still own this one, but Ive since upgraded so its back in its box

50$

I wouldn't recommend the amplifier i was running though. It never gave me any issues, but i still see bad reviews up for it every so often. Ide pick up a cheap amplifier that puts out around 400 watts rms, and the diablo was the cheapest i could find for 80 bucks at my local retailer.

Expect to spend around 70 or 80 for an okay one. If you wanna go really cheap though you can pick up a DUAL 1200 watt at walmart for around 60 bucks i think.

Thanks death, I really appreciate it. Do you have any other suggestions? I'd be willing to spend up to 300 dollars to get myself up and running.

I just bought a rockford fosgate P3 2ohm dvc sub and a p3001 mono amp for my truck and for 300 bucks including the box and it sounds really good. Just some food for though.

^Have a link for it?

Thanks for the response :th_thumbsup-wink:

I also found this: (2) KICKER CVR10-4 SUBS+AUTOTEK 1500w 2 CH AMPLIFIER - eBay (item 390266119847 end time Dec-26-10 07:30:13 PST)

Worth it?

Sonicelectronix has those subs for 75 apiece right now, but I have also seen them do a buy one get one free for 100 dollars before. They also sell that amp for $105.

Autotek AT1500 - 2-Channel Car Amplifier Power Amp - Sonic Electronix

Kicker 07CVR104 10" CompVR Subwoofer (CVR104, CVR10-4)

Honestly, I'd pay the extra 5 bucks to buy it from a retailer's site. Warranty is assured.

But If I buy it from the retailer's website, I'm not getting the Amp Wiring Kit that I would be if I bought from there store on eBay?

I also found this that has just about everything to get going: 800 WATT KICKER + SONY BASS PACKAGE W/ AMP+SUBS+BOX+KIT - eBay (item 300500748839 end time Jan-03-11 08:28:29 PST)

Thanks for the response ZR1Vette

yeah, but according to this chart that wiring kit is getting on the very low side of what your amp needs

If I were you, I'd buy something more like this: Power Acoustik AKIT-2G 2 Gauge Amplifier/Amp Installation Kit

or this: $39.95 Power Acoustik AKIT-2G (AKIT2G) 2 Gauge Complete Amplifier Installation Kit

So If I were to buy all that stuff, is that a decent system for the price and sound good or should I keep looking?

I really appreciate the help.

well, my links for sub, amp, and wiring kit keeps you under 300 bucks. For that price, no system can beat it. If you wanna spend an extra 20 bucks sonicelectronix has a two pack of comp-vr 12's. I have been in several cars with the comp's, and they're pretty alright subs. Not too crisp, not too loud, but then again you're talking about 300 bucks for a system.

Do you think I should buy two of those subs or buy just one sub and get a little better one for a little more money?

That's all on you. I opted for a single 12 in my truck as opposed to getting two of those comps, and I couldn't be happier with how crisp it is, even though it's not as loud I'm sure. I think it's safe to say you need to do some more research and shopping, figure exactly what it is you want.

I will be looking around more yet. I'm just trying to get some ideas and opinions on things.

Thanks for all your help :th_thumbsup-wink:

just a word for thought.... i have bought a few things from SonicElectronix.com and they give u the factory warranty and they r really cheap and have GREAT customer service i would buy any of my car audio form them no doubt just like i have before :p

Thanks death, I really appreciate it. Do you have any other suggestions? I'd be willing to spend up to 300 dollars to get myself up and running.

I'd say spend about 100 bucks on each part of the system. But we've got to take the wiring into account. 4 guage would handle most amps easily and you can pick up 4 guage wiring kit for around 50 bucks, but if all your going to run is around 1200 peak theres a cheaper way

with 300 dollars ide pick up a pair of those RE REx subs
there plenty powerful, keep in mind there the lowest line of RE's. Or you could go for 1 RE SRx for the same price as the who lower models. Either way the RE's are some of the best subs out there and at that price there screamingly cheap. Both ideas would be around 100 bucks

For the amplifier shoot for around 200 to 300 watts rms max per sub. So pick up an amp that does around 400 to 500 watts rms total. Mono block or 2 channel is fine since those subs have dual voice coils, and you can pick up an amp with that power for around 80 bucks. Just make sure to check its power ratings

For the box the best way to go is ported. And theres alot of good boxes our there. You can build one yourself on the cheap but unless you have some experience you could end up with somthing thats not so good. As for me i built my first box myself. It looks great since the subs fireing into the cabin in a flush mounted panel in the pass through whole between the seats. And it makes alot of wind and power. But i know i could have made it more efficient. So i'd say pick up a well designed prefabricated box. Either way a good box will yet again be in the 80 to 100 dollar range.

For the wiring kit if all your running is 1200 watts peak then you can pick up the scosche wiring kit from walmart for around 35 bucks its only 6 Gauge wire. Its pretty cheap and it never let me down while i used it.

Otherwise i wouldn't recommend a single amp we sell at best buy for this particular application unless you go to the online store. We carry some great ones but there higher priced than i'd like. Nor would i recommended kicker for the guy above who posted it, kickers higher end subs are pretty great as are there higher end amps but there not worth it for their low priced stuff.

Search websites like sonic electronix and others. Just make sure there authorized online dealers, this will help if you ever have warranty issues. I know for a fact that sonic is because I've called quite a few of the brands they sell directly to ask.

Whatever you decide or if you have any questions about anything post it on here or send me a message. I'd go web browsing to find a setup for you but i'm currently busy with a pile of work as well as finding parts for my best friends audio build and my next audio build which is gonna run me close to 2 grand.

Thanks again death for all the information you said, I really appreciate it.

I'll keep you in mind for sure since you seem to know what your doing/talking about and I'll more than likely be asking you more questions down the road lol.

Okay in no way would you ever in a million years need 2 gauge wire to run an 800 watt peak amplifier. ZR1 ( i ****ing love that car by the way) the chart that crutchfield puts out is based on watts of rms power not peak, it isnt your fault that the chart doesnt specify it. If you were running 800 rms you still wouldnt "need" 2 gauge but it would be alot easier on the amplifier.

Sadly Sony does not make very powerful amplifiers. I'm certain that amp wouldn't even need 4 gauge much less 2 gauge. That sony 800 watt is a joke at best.

If you read it specs it only puts our a measly 250 watts rms total at 4 ohms. and maby 300 watts at 2 ohms, Even these numbers are probably overestimates. From my experience 8 gauge would handle that just fine. And if your worried pick up the 6 gauge kit i mentioned from walmart. Its cheap and its 100% pure copper unlike these power acoustics kits.

I bought Rockford fosgate subs at 100 a pop plus buy one get one so broke down to fifty a piece. Added a 1000 watt kenwood and it bumps far more than I expected.. Doubt the amp is actually 1000 watts, but I didn't expect it to be. And I'm using like 6-8 gauge wire with no issues.. You don't need ridiculously huge wire.

Crutchfield is where I bought subs and the amp.. Subs were 89.99 plus buy one get one so $45 each. Rockford fosgate P1S412's.. Basically 12" p1's. Amp was a refurb for $109, so $200 for amp and subs with free shipping, and a forty dollar box from amazon with free shipping. Amp was like a kca somethingor another.
