As said before any car person always thinks thier car is the best, Honda's, Toyotas, GM's, Ford doesn't matter.
IMO, this best describes a "fanboy" more so then a car guy. I think to be a real car guy you need to respect/appreciate more then just the brand. Damn near all of the major car manufactures have made a few good cars. To not acknowledge that, and simply dismiss one brand all together as trash is pure ignorance. Sure, it's great to be brand loyal, but there is a difference between being loyal, and being nut hugger.
My first car was an 86 volkswagon golf, more then 250 thousand miles on the clock when I got it. Learned how to drive a manual with that car, drive it till almost 300 thousand before it died. I loved that car, and was sad to see it go. Since then, I've owned a variety of cars, been a part of a variety of car groups, and seen enough fanboyism to make a man go grey. It really is sad, because a lot of people just follow their group, and never try anything new.
The list of cars I've owned
86 golf (loved it)
92 prism (hated it)
95 240SX (loved it, sr swapped it,loved it even more)
96 Camaro z28 (hated it, because it was so much slower then my 240 was)
98 eclipse rs (hated it, 1 hahn turbo kit later I loved it)
98 mustang GT ( loved how it sounded, made me want my Z28 back)
2000 park avenue ultra ( this was my first true DD, and the car that give me a respect for the 3800)
2001 Camaro Z28 ( Loved it, and kicked myself everyday for a year when I sold it)
2003 Mustang GT (Loved it, but not as much as the LS1)
I currently still have the 03 GT, along with an 04 Cobra, which is by far the best sports car I've ever owned. Also have a 96 mustang GT as a project car, i will probably get rid of it though, as I'm looking into getting an EK hatch for a new project. And of course, I'm currently on the hunt for a 6th gen GTP sedan for a new daily driver. The reason, because like the Cobra, the GTP is fairly cheap to mod, and I love the way they look. Yeah they have a few problems here and there, but don't they all?
I've been chased away from other sites because of the cars that I owned while looking into that site's car of choice. Hell, a few here still just consider me another mustang asshole, and would rather me just leave their beloved GM forum. can't blame them though. I've caught that treatment myself first hand from the mustang crowd when I had the 01 z28 and was looking into a new edge GT. I don't care what others may think, the **** goes both ways.
In the end, it really is about preference. However, your preference is not the end all be all. And it doesn't mean that you have to hate other cars, and their owners because they sport a different badge. All this fanboy crap is what ruins sites like youtube, and streetfire. If you've ever sifted through the BS comments there, you've seen, it's pathetic. An important rule that is too often forgot, to each their own. Think about how awesome most car forums would be if this was a concept more often displayed, then the desire to puff out your chest and defend your badge. Ok I'm done, sorry for the long rant
