Strange coolant temperatures.

Hello forum.

Its getting hot out here in Atlanta. Noticed my gauge cluster temp gauge reading a bit high in traffic. Switched over the Aeroforce and it was reading 233deg at the stop light. Pulled over, popped the hood expecting a coolant leak.... Nothing. Topped off the coolant reservoir and made it home. Aeroforce was averaging about 204deg with a low of 195deg on a long stretch of highway.

I have had a 180deg T-Stat on the car for about 7 years and I have never seen it get this hot. In the morning im going to bleed the system and drive it around to check the temps.

Im thinking the T-Stat is stuck open. What do yall think?

If t-stat was stuck open you'd be running cooler.

If you have a 180 T-stat and did not tune for it the fans will not come on until 210.

lol yes I did a dextron delete as soon as i got the car. Have done flushes about once a year for good measure.

Even with stock settings, 233 is hot. I have an ever so slightly failed head gasket and my car doesn't get that hot with the 195. Even further, I am just north so we are comparing at the same temps.

When my fans finally kick on (226 or so) the temps plummet back to 210.

Flushed the system, bled, topped off. Coolant temperatures average 170-185 deg around town. There had to be an air bubble in the system even after I bled it before the flush. I may stop topping it off in the overflow tank and just use the radiator filler cap.
