Story about local Sears shop

#Billsnamechangessuck
My co worker brought his Mini-cooper in for a battery yesterday to the Sears Automotive Center. The car has around 40Kmi on it, and has always been maintained by the dealer. It needed a battery and he was in the area so he figured anybody can put a battery in a car, right?

Brings it in and says all he wanted was a battery. The tech puts it on the lift, and a little while later they tell him his tires are unevenly worn and they would do a free alignment check for him come back in 2 hrs, sure go ahead if its free why not. So he comes back 2 hours later, and they tell him his brakes are bad and should be replaced to the tune of $900... didnt even mention the results of the alignment. He declined the offer and told them the car is very lightly driven, has no braking issues and all he wants was the battery that he came her for.

Goes back into the waiting room as they take the car off the lift and attempt to drive it outside. I say attempt becasue the tech drove his Mini THROUGH THE GARAGE DOOR! Then they try to tell him the tech couldnt stop the car becasue the brakes were so bad! (A: he didnt have an issue driving the car there, and B: the tech didnt have an issue pulling it into the bay, STOPPING, pulling it onto the alignment rack ((if they even did), STOPPING without falling off the rack, and yet again pulling it onto the lift and STOPPING for the third time!)

So the cops are called and Sears gave them the same "the brakes are bad" bull****, and claim he is liable for the damage to their building! So the cop tells him if that's the case he cant even drive the car off the property! They tow his car and take a report. He has it towed to the dealer that does his maintenance and they verified the brakes are NOT an issue at all. So he has to have the car looked over by the insurance companies, and gather a case up proving his car isnt unsafe to drive.

Its one of the biggest BS story I have heard to date from someone getting bent over by a rip off service station!

That is quite a story. Likewise, I had an alighment performed at Sears, Once, and will not go back at all, becuase the people there were "pricks". Sometime ago Sears was under fire for fraudulant battery sales, and I am sure that is just the tip of the ice berg. This is the reason I have always performed my own maintanance and repairs.

Yeah, I suggest staying away from those kinds of places. If you need work done that you can't possibly do yourself, then definitely ask around and do tons of research if you don't know of a reputable shop in your area.

If you have a lifted truck with larger tires, Sears won't even put tires on for you. They say its against the law to run a tire more than x amount larger than factory.

They always pull the, "well this is wrong too, so we can't let you leave until its fixed. By the way, its going to cost $7000" or some BS like that.

That's incredible. I've been to places where they deem the vehicle "unsafe to drive" and requires the owner to sign a waiver that states that place isn't liable for anything that happens once the car leaves the property. I hope that guy in the mini gets what's right from the a55hole5 at sears!

so what kind of kickback do you think the cops get on this deal, because I have seen issues like that and the cop has gotten behind the wheel tested it and if safe let the driver take it home

This story is similar to what I had to go through to return a defective battery...

I had "transfered" the battery from my junker I scrapped to my GTP... I guess if you have a free installation done, it is then magically tied to that car forever.... long story short this aparently voids the waranty, so I went around the corner and removed it from my car (I figured they were too lazy to honor a free installation of a new one) and came back in... they seriously went out and pointed at my car saying I just took it out of there!

they REFUSED to do anything about this, so I had to have my dad handle it the next day.... was a complete and utter joke and a waste of a soild 3 hours of my day.

I lost my temper to the point where I started throwing stuff in the store... was pretty funny looking back on it.

Sears auto is hands down the biggest scam going... About as bad as their aluminum floor jacks they sell that explode the day you buy them, and there is no return policy or waranty... lol.
