HEy ...Just wondering how much horsepower the tranny in my 2002 GTP will take before i need to make modifications to it?
 


Anything over your basic mods. When you start getting into cams and under a 3.4 pulley, you should want to upgrade.
 
This is really a loaded question but as mentioned above the trans really should be upgraded after the basic mods are done to the car. Sure there are guys running into the 12s on a stock trans BUT it is not without concern or caution. The stock transmissions have their weaknesses and shift firmness is a big killer. Most aftermarket pcms raise the shift pressure a bit for firmer shifts to help the trans out with higher power levels and this typically gets you by for a while. Once you get into the low 13/high 12 second range is when things start to be on the verge of failing or breaking. I mention this being a loaded question because there are guys running low 14s that are trashing stock transmissions, so there are a lot more variables than just mods and some transmissions just dont last.
 
I am glad you chimmed in on this Trannyman to go more in depth. If it was me and knew I was going to do some nice modding, I'd go ahead and do a tranny upgrade. Better to be safe than sorry.
 


You are correct sir. Took the words right out of my mouth. From what I have seen, Trannyman has the best prices and does a hell of a job.
